Summary

  • Evokers in World of Warcraft are a unique class only playable as a Dracthyr, offering a one-of-a-kind experience.
  • The Evoker's complex animations and combat style set them apart, requiring players to walk like a person, but fight like a dragon.
  • Players will often spend a lot of time customizing their Dracthyr's appearance and cosplaying as their favorite dragons. All dragon magic abilities. Players should also take advantage of the ability to fly, as it as fun as it is rare.

The Evoker in World of Warcraft is a class/race combo like no other. The only way to play as an Evoker is to be a Dracthyr, and vice versa. Thus, the experience offered by the class can’t be found elsewhere and will keep the Dragonflight expansion in mind long after its passing.

Allowing players to be anthropomorphic dragons was a bold move for World of Warcraft, as its animations and appearances are far more complex than any other race. On top of this, the casting and combat style demanded a unique identity, as the Evoker has to walk like a person, but fight like a dragon.

World of Warcraft: The Unwritten Rules of Playing a Rogue Explained

World of Warcraft's sneaky, swashbuckling tricksters just love surprises, especially if the surprise is them.

It’s Not About the Transmog Anymore

Many players in World of Warcraft base their aspirations on attaining the perfect look, usually by collecting as many transmogs as possible. Evokers, however, at least while in their true form, can’t wear typical attire. Only in their visage form can a Dracthyr be seen decked out head to toe in a full matching transmog. In dragon form, only the belt and shoulder armor carry over.

While one might consider this a serious cramp in an Evoker’s style, many players are more than happy to ditch their visage form completely. This is because the real trial of style is found in the Dracthyr’s racial customization. Looking good is simply a matter of spending hours in the barbershop, agonizing over the countless combinations of colors, horns, scales, and crests.

Evoker Fans Can’t Resist Cosplay

When making their first Evoker, players will inevitably try to make it look like their favorite fantasy dragon. From Toothless to Spyro, Shenron to Smaug, these usernames were snapped up in an instant, and ideas for designing an exact Evoker lookalike were the next best thing. Playing a dragon is a rare event in any game, not just World of Warcraft, so an opportunity to be one’s favorite draconic character can’t be missed.

Dragons Here, There, and Everywhere

In an expansion called Dragonflight, the focus is naturally on Azeroth’s dragons. The Evokers embody this spirit, introducing a long-lost race of creatures that were the result of the former Black Aspect’s experiments. The Dracthyr were designed to be weapons, but now they’ve carved out their own path as heroes. Through both lore and esthetics, the Evoker is the perfect class for players who love all things to do with dragons.

WoW's Evokers Are Masters of All Dragon Magic

There was a dilemma when designing a dragon-themed class, however. In World of Warcraft, there are five distinct tribes of dragons, related to their color and the aspect of Azeroth they protect. Given that a Dracthyr player can be any of these colors and even more, they fall outside the traditional dragonflight categories. Built by Neltharion to harness all the dragons’ abilities, Evokers use a combination of every draconic power: time, life, nature, earth, and magic. This is what makes them truly unique, even among their dragon cousins.

Evokers Were Dragonriding Before It Was Cool

Before Dragonflight was released, and it remained in its Alpha testing phase, the Dracthyr were incredible airborne athletes. Dragonriding had not yet been enabled outside the Dragon Isles, but Evokers could use their own two wings to paint the skies of Azeroth at blinding speeds. However, given that this gave Evoker players an unfair advantage, the Soar ability was nerfed until the Seeds of Renewal patch in early 2024.

Now, Evokers are free to utilize full Dragonriding capabilities once more, with no mount required. It’s an incredible feeling to not have to rely on anything else to take to the skies, swooping and gliding like a true dragon. Being the first and only class in World of Warcraft that can actually fly is a perk that no Evoker can forget, and means Dragonflight will always be remembered as the expansion that truly gave players wings.
