It’s been a while since World of Warcraft’s latest expansion, Shadowlands, arrived and implemented the new level 60 cap. A lot of players may have taken a break after hitting 60 and exploring the early expansion endgame, but some big new content patches are prompting a return to the game for many, which means it’s time to play a bit of catch up.

The first item on many World of Warcraft players’ list is going to be unlocking Flying in the Shadowlands zones. This makes World Quests much easier and also greatly speeds up the alt leveling experience. Luckily, the task is much simpler this time around in comparison to recent expansions.

Players are no longer required to work through a massive Pathfinder achievement chain. Instead, unlocking flying in Shadowlands is largely tied to campaign progress and Covenant Renown (which conveniently progresses mostly in parallel to campaign progress).

The list if items for players to complete in order to unlock flying is fairly short this time around, though it will require some dedicated hours of gameplay focusing specifically on campaign quests (both Convenant and Chains of Domination):

Shadowlands Flying Unlock Requirements

  • Reach Renown 44 (complete the Convenant storyline along the way to speed this up)
  • Complete "The Last Sigil" - Chapter 4 of the Chains of Domination campaign
  • Receive Memories of Sunless Skies Icon Memories of Sunless Skies and unlock account-wide flying in the Shadowlands zones. This achievement should unlock automatically when the previous two requirements have been completed.

Where is flying available in Shadowlands?

  • Bastion
  • Maldraxxus
  • Ardenweald
  • Revendreth

This means players don’t need to worry about getting 100% exploration of each zone, any reputation requirements, or any of the other pre-Shadowlands Pathfinder sort of requirements. Simply progress through the campaign to the necessary point, each Covenant Renown along the way, and then the achievement will be unlocked. A lot of “catch up” changes have taken place in recent months, so it shouldn’t take very long at all for any level 60 player to meet those requirements if they focus in on the task at hand and ignore side quests and distractions along the way.
