Summary

  • Zevkir's Lair no longer counts as a delve for the Great Vault in World of Warcraft after October 8.
  • The change was made to prevent players from farming Zevkir to quickly complete weekly challenges.
  • Some players are unhappy with the change as they can no longer easily fill the bottom row of the Great Vault.

World of Warcraft has made it so that defeating Zevkir in his lair no longer counts as a completed delve for the Great Vault. This means World of Warcraft players cannot fill the bottom row of their Great Vault by farming Zevkir’s Lair anymore.

Zevkir is the final boss of World of Warcraft: The War Within’s inaugural delve season. The giant Nerubian monster can invade most other delves in World of Warcraft like the Butcher from Diablo 4, but players who gain access to his lair can defeat him to get rare items and exclusive upgrades.

However, World of Warcraft just made a change to Zevkir’s Lair that fans should know about. As of the weekly reset on October 8, clearing Zevkir’s Lair no longer gives credit towards World of Warcraft's Great Vault, the weekly grid players can earn gear from by finishing in-game challenges. This means fans cannot beat Zevkir eight times to fill up the bottom row of the Great Vault anymore, and must instead complete other delves or world activities.

Zevkir’s Lair Nerf in World of Warcraft: The War Within

  • As of October 8, completing Zevkir’s Lair no longer counts as a delve for the purposes of Great Vault credit.

While some delves in World of Warcraft are easier than others, they usually take between 10 and 20 minutes depending on the difficulty, objectives, and layout. On the converse, Zevkir’s Lair is a straightforward showdown with the eponymous boss that takes a matter of minutes. World of Warcraft implemented this change to make it so players of a sufficient power level would not just farm Zevkir to quickly complete their weekly challenges.

From a balance standpoint, this change makes sense. If one delve takes a fraction of the time it takes to complete the others, most fans will just do it instead of interfacing with the rest of the system. Farming a single boss over and over again defeats the purpose of delves in the first place, so it is probably a good thing that World of Warcraft made this controversial change.

That said, many World of Warcraft players aren’t happy about it. Some fans, especially those who would rather focus on raiding or Mythic dungeons in WoW, liked having an easy avenue to fill out their bottom row of the Great Vault, and don’t want to spend hours clearing other delves in order to do so. Luckily, players can only choose one item from the Great Vault every week anyway, so even if fans don’t enjoy delves, they can still obtain powerful gear by focusing on the content they like instead.
