Summary
- Early access for World of Warcraft's The War Within expansion allowed fans to level up quickly, with the first player hitting level 80 in just over an hour.
- Other speed levelers followed closely behind, with creative methods like exploiting the Blood Elf Heritage questline.
- Leveling is easier in The War Within, especially for alts, who can benefit from a passive experience boost for each max level character.
The first player to reach level 80 in World of Warcraft: The War Within did so in just over an hour after early access for the expansion began. Though the race to world first was neck and neck, this World of Warcraft fan was able to get from level 70 to level 80 in an hour and one minute.
Early access for World of Warcraft: The War Within began on August 22, opening the gates of Khaz Algar for players who pre-purchased the Epic Edition of the expansion. Many of the endgame progression systems are not available until the full launch, but fans are able to experience the leveling campaign, gain reputation with the major Renown factions, and reach the new level cap of 80.
World of Warcraft Disables Feature for Level 70 Characters
Following the launch of The War Within, the latest World of Warcraft expansion, Blizzard disables a feature for level 70 characters.
It didn’t take long for fans to do exactly that. The expansion became available to play at 3 PM PDT, turning experience gains on for level 70 characters. By 4:01 PM PDT, an hour and one minute after early access went live, WoW fan Monkeylol had already reached level 80, the maximum level in World of Warcraft: The War Within. He and his group accomplished this impressive feat through efficient questing, pet battle turn-ins, elite farming, and dungeons. Monkeylol went into more details at the 2:49:10 mark of WoW content creator Naowh's stream, shortly after he hit max level – though viewers should be aware the stream contains profanity.
The Race to Level 80 in World of Warcraft: The War Within
Despite his extremely fast time, Monkeylol’s world first level 80 victory was anything but decisive. Renowned World of Warcraft speed leveler Shiekrunner was mere minutes behind, hitting the level cap at about 4:07 PM PDT, though unlike Monkeylol, Shiekrunner’s method of power leveling involved creative use of an exploit in the Blood Elf Heritage questline to farm a hyperspawn. Other teams were not long after, with a group from hardcore WoW raider guild Echo getting to max level in about an hour and a half.
Considering the wide variety of activities in the new World of Warcraft expansion, leveling in The War Within is easier than ever. This is even more true for alts, who can benefit from a passive experience boost for each max level character World of Warcraft players have, up to a 25% bonus after the fifth one.
The full release of The War Within is imminent, with the expansion becoming available for everyone to play on August 26 at 3 PM PDT, mere hours after press time. While most players will want to take their time and immerse themselves in the story of The War Within, those who want to power through to max level so they can get into the endgame might consider using Monkeylol’s method to do so.
