World of Warcraft just showed off a hilarious image of the massive kobolds players will have to face in The War Within. This unexpected glow up shocked many World of Warcraft players, and proved the next expansion pack will be full of surprises.
World of Warcraft revealed The War Within, the first of three expansions planned as a part of the Worldsoul Saga, during Blizzcon. Like those that came before it, The War Within adds many new features to World of Warcraft, including zones to explore, activities to complete, and monsters to battle.
World of Warcraft Adding a Limitation to Old World Dragonriding
World of Warcraft brings Dragonriding to the rest of the game in Patch 10.2.5, Seeds of Renewal, but with a catch players should know about.
However, the official World of Warcraft Twitter just shared an image of one creature players never would have expected to face. The picture features two kobolds–the first being the normal version of the common candle-loving World of Warcraft monster, and the second being a massive example of their kind. At over three times the size of the original one, players will encounter these gigantic kobolds in The War Within, where they will no doubt be more fearsome than their smaller cousins–an impressive feat considering they are one of the deadliest mobs in World of Warcraft Classic Hardcore.
What are Kobolds in World of Warcraft?
- Kobolds are diminutive rat-like humanoids who are known for being protective over the candles they wear on their heads.
- They first appeared in Warcraft 3, and have shown up in vanilla World of Warcraft and many of its expansions.
- While big kobolds have appeared in Hearthstone cards like King Togwaggle and Burly Shovelfist, the huge kobolds in The War Within are the largest in World of Warcraft history.
Fans were delighted by this new take on the classic World of Warcraft monster. Many fans think they will be more likely to get their candles taken by this kobold, whom many have affectionately named a “swolebold.” Others made references to popular memes or video games, and wondered if he had found a super mushroom from Mario. That said, more than a few were taken aback by how handsome they found this strapping kobold, and would prefer to take him on a date, rather than take his candle.
Either way, it seems like The War Within is gearing up to be an expansion full of wondrous new creatures. From Algarian Stormriders of the Isle of Dorn to the new types of Nerubians players will face in Azj-Kahet, fans will have plenty of new creatures to encounter. While some, like World of Warcraft’s new Earthen Allied Race, have not charmed players yet, these massive kobolds certainly have.
