World of Warcraft recently resolved a critical issue with guild banks caused by The War Within, but some players have reportedly lost all of their stored items in the process. While World of Warcraft said it would do its best to restore missing goods, some guilds have not had a single item returned to them after this issue was reportedly solved.
Following the launch of The War Within, World of Warcraft encountered a problem with its guild banks that caused players to lose items, including profession materials from previous expansions, stashed in the shared storage area. Blizzard recently identified and resolved the technical issue, which was caused by the addition of cross-realm guilds in Patch 11.0.2. According to a forum post announcement on September 20, World of Warcraft developers have since compiled as many of these lost items as they could find to be sent back to their respective guild masters in the following days.
World of Warcraft Fans Want to See 1 Longtime Restriction Removed from the Game
World of Warcraft players take to social media to discuss removing and replacing a long-standing restriction on a popular game feature.
However, it seems like some of these guilds have yet to receive their missing items. WoW player and Redditor Different_Ad_9469 reported that their guild of 13 years lost every item in their guild bank without a single one being restored. The response from a World of Warcraft game master gave them little hope, as they claimed there was nothing Blizzard could do to escalate or resolve the issue further due to the lack of logs needed to completely restore the missing items. Other guilds reported similar issues, with countless items seemingly being lost with little hope of being restored.
Some World of Warcraft Guilds Lose Every Item in Their Banks
That said, there may still be hope for these players. The WoW forum post was made on a Friday, and it's possible the restoration process stopped for the weekend and World of Warcraft is still working on shipping items back to players. Considering the wording, it seems unlikely that Blizzard would be unable to recover even a single one of the dozens or even hundreds of items some guilds lost, so the process could very likely still be underway and may take time, as many guilds were impacted by this issue.
That said, fans aren’t happy with World of Warcraft’s response to this issue. There was nearly a month of silence before Blizzard acknowledged the problem in the first place, and the sluggish response has done little to ameliorate affected players. It does not help that World of Warcraft’s customer service team was reportedly downsized during the first round of Blizzard layoffs this year, making communication much harder.
As far as The War Within is concerned, the guild bank debacle has been a big blemish on an otherwise highly-acclaimed expansion. It's unclear whether guilds in World of Warcraft that lost large quantities of items due to this issue will receive some form of compensation.
