Samwise Didier was the senior art director at Blizzard who was present when the company was first founded in 1991. His iconic art style, evocative of the metal album covers he has also illustrated, became the visual foundation for many Blizzard universes – Warcraft most of all. Though Didier left Blizzard in November 2023 to pursue personal projects, his legacy persists in many ways, including through the Pandaren, modeled after his favorite animal, and the name “Warcraft” itself, which was taken from one of his old Dungeons and Dragons characters.

The Blizzard Gear Store recently added a new pop-up to its front page, alerting viewers that “a great event approaches.” The advertisement references the launch of something called the Samwise Sketch, and features an iconic drawing of a World of Warcraft Tauren Warrior by the artist. What’s more, it seems fans who pick up this mysterious product will also earn the Bronze Murloc for World of Warcraft.
The Samwise Sketch Item Will Include the Bronze Murloc World of Warcraft Pet
At present, it is hard to say exactly what the Samwise Sketch is going to be. It could be a new artbook featuring sketch work by the artist, or a collection of prints that can be ordered individually or together. Either way, the Bronze Murloc paired with the product will likely only be available in modern World of Warcraft, though it may have a Classic WoW battle pet counterpart if players are especially lucky.
According to the announcement, the Samwise Sketch will be officially revealed on March 10 at 10 AM PST. Fans of Didier’s work who do not want to miss out can sign up on the Blizzard Gear Store to get notified via email once the Samwise Sketch officially launches.
