- Fans are excited about the return of Trios in Plunderstorm.
World of Warcraft has finally re-added the Trios version of Plunderstorm for the event's second run. Though three-person teams were inexplicably absent at the start of the World of Warcraft event, players will now be able to queue into Trios until Plunderstorm sets sail once again.
Plunderstorm is a piratical battle royale World of Warcraft introduced in 2024. On January 14, the game mode returned for its second run, including several new abilities, features, and rewards to keep it fresh. However, after it started, fans noticed that Trios – the three-person Plunderstorm matches World of Warcraft added partway through the first event – were nowhere to be found.
World of Warcraft Patch 11.1 Adds 'Preview' of Player Housing
World of Warcraft adds a fun 'teaser' for player housing in Patch 11.1 that can hopefully tide them over until the full feature arrives in Midnight.
Now, Trios has finally made its return to Plunderstorm. World of Warcraft recently announced that, as of the reset on the week of January 21, Trios has been re-enabled in the battle royale game mode. Players can queue into Plunderstorm alone or with one or two friends and have matchmaking fill the rest of their team for each game. Trios will be available for the rest of the Plunderstorm event, which is expected to run until on or around February 18.
World of Warcraft Plunderstorm Trios is Back
Trio Plunderstorm matches differ from Solo and Duo queues in a few ways. Because there are only 20 teams, early fights are less frequent, giving fans more time to gain experience, collect and upgrade their World of Warcraft Plunderstorm abilities, and finish their Captain’s Orders quests to earn more Plunder. Skirmishes are also more chaotic with an extra teammate, and escaping to later resurrect one’s teammates after a lost battle is also easier.
The reason for the initial absence of Trios in Plunderstorm’s second run is currently unknown. It could be that the addition of Plunderstorm's new features, such as the Plunderstore, where World of Warcraft players can buy both old and new rewards from the event, or the Practice Lobby threw unexpected wrenches into the user interface, requiring a little extra time to ensure Trios worked appropriately. Either way, fans are excited about the return of Trios in Plunderstorm, as many consider it to be the most fun and engaging way to play the battle royale.
Players interested in watching some high-stakes matches of the piratical game mode will not want to miss World of Warcraft's second Plunderstorm Creator Royale. This PvP tournament pits 30 teams of two World of Warcraft content creators each against one another in up to eight matches, with a $50,000 prize pool on the line for the top teams. Fans can catch the Plunderstorm Creator Royale on YouTube and Twitch on January 25, starting at 10 AM PST.
