World of Warcraft is finally adding a tooltip on the world map in Patch 11.2 that identifies which story variant is active in a given Delve. This useful quality-of-life improvement will help fans more easily complete difficult achievements in World of Warcraft and avoid doing Delve stories they don’t enjoy.
Delves are a new type of instance in World of Warcraft: The War Within that can be completed solo or in groups by characters of any specialization or role. Each Delve has a number of different story variants that change the enemies, objectives, mechanics, and pathways players take through the instance, which rotate randomly on a daily basis.
World of Warcraft Fans Will Definitely Want to Tune In to Gamescom 2025
World of Warcraft will join other industry giants in attending the annual Gamescom video game trade show in Cologne, Germany, later this summer.
Now, in Patch 11.2, Ghosts of K’aresh, World of Warcraft is adding a new feature that will help fans looking for certain Delve storylines. On the World of Warcraft Patch 11.2 Public Test Realm, the tooltip that pops up when hovering over a Delve now shows which story variant is active in the instance on that particular day. This allows players to check what story awaits them in the Delve without having to physically go to the entrance – the only way fans can learn this information in the game right now.
Delve Story Variants Visible on Map in WoW Patch 11.2
This change is important for two main reasons. Firstly, it will help players more easily complete the Delve Loremaster: The War Within achievement, which requires fans to complete every storyline of every Delve and is itself a requirement for the Glory of the Delver achievement that rewards the Ivory Golianthus mount. Secondly, it will allow players to choose Delve story variants that are easier or more enjoyable while avoiding those they do not like. Delves are also going to be an evergreen feature in future expansions, so this change will help fans for years to come.
Patch 11.2 does not have a release date yet, but World of Warcraft Patch 11.1.7 dropped on June 17. Assuming it follows its typical eight-week release cadence, players can expect it on or around August 12.
This is only one of many quality-of-life improvements coming in the next update. World of Warcraft is also adding new visual options that let fans reduce the visual effects of other friendly players. Featuring three settings – Everything, Reduced, and Essential – gamers can use these options to control how much VFX input they see during the battle to make raids, world bosses, and other group content less visually cluttered.
