This new content update is also getting an exciting new reward for fans of the Engineering profession in World of Warcraft. Five new Engineering achievements are coming in the new patch that each unlocks a cosmetic ensemble. Players can earn each of these five Chromatic Calibration achievements by crafting every type of goggles for each type. Doing so unlocks a cosmetic item that lets them use any color of the goggles on any class, regardless of armor type.

The five types of goggles players can unlock cosmetics through the new Chromatic Calibration achievements in World of Warcraft Patch 10.1.7 are:

  • Bio-Optic Killshades - has 7 goggles to craft as a prerequisite across 4 colors.
  • Retinal Armor - also with 7 items to create, with 6 different colors available
  • Cranial Cannon - with 12 entries to make in 4 different shades.
  • Ectoplasmic Specs - which has only 4 goggles needed for the unlock, and in 4 different colors
  • Holo-Gogs - with a whopping 34 items required for the achievement, but with 11 colors as well.

These achievements and their corresponding items are still in the World of Warcraft Public Test Realm, so they may change before going live. The details of these unlocks may also look different–it remains to be seen if players will need to have the Engineering on a character in order to transmog them once they earn the Chromatic Calibration achievement, or if it will be free to use regardless of professions. Players also don't know if they will receive credit towards earning the achievement if they have already made these items in the past, or if they will have to re-craft them after Patch 10.1.7.

This new cosmetic item and goal for Engineers is a huge surprise for many World of Warcraft fans. Goggles have always been highly-coveted items in World of Warcraft, and the armor and Engineering profession requirements have made it difficult to make satisfying transmogs using the high-tech equipment. That said, these achievements won’t be easy to earn, especially considering how rare some of the recipes are. Either way, players will be free to make Splinter Cell and Cyberpunk 2077 transmogs for their World of Warcraft characters once they do unlock them.
