World of Warcraft just shared a high-flying preview of worldwide Dragonriding coming in the next content update. Players will be able to zoom around nearly every zone in World of Warcraft once Patch 10.2.5, Seeds of Renewal, drops on January 16.
When Dragonflight came out, one of the most exciting new features of the expansion was Dragonriding. The new type of flying was so popular that World of Warcraft is bringing the system to the rest of the world in Seeds of Renewal, and is making big improvements to Dragonriding in The War Within.
What to Expect From World of Warcraft in 2024
2024 will mark the World of Warcraft's 20th year, and Blizzard seems to have a lot of plans to make this year one of the game's best yet.
With worldwide Dragonriding just over a week away, World of Warcraft shared a short video showcasing how players will be able to fly across the old world once Patch 10.2.5 comes out on January 16. The teaser shows various characters and mounts flying over iconic zones like the Barrens and the Plaguelands, visiting cities like Stormwind and Orgrimmar, and even flying in front of World of Warcraft’s iconic Sword of Sargeras. The video shows how much faster Dragonriding feels when compared to normal flying, and reveals a new perspective of these old zones by speeding across the sky.
Dragonriding Features in WoW Patch 10.2.5
-
The ability to use Dragonriding in old World of Warcraft zones where flying is enabled and unlocked.
- Players must still unlock Dragonriding and collect glyphs on a single character to use the system.
- Characters must be level 60 to use Dragonriding in the old world.
- The maximum speed for Dragonriding outside the Dragon Isles is locked at 85% of the normal speed–still over twice as fast as normal World of Warcraft flying mounts.
If this change were not exciting enough, more updates to Dragonriding are coming to World of Warcraft sooner than players think. The feature is becoming Dynamic Flying in The War Within, and will be expanded to most other flying mounts. Dragonriding traits and abilities will also be baked into Dynamic Flying, with characters no longer being required to collect and spend glyphs. Players can look forward to Dynamic Flying as a part of The War Within pre-patch, currently scheduled for early summer.
The War Within is also making Dragonflight the default leveling experience for new players. Given the size of the Dragon Isles, and the fact that fans unlock Dragonriding early in the campaign, many players theorize Dragonriding may be unlocked as early as level 30 or even 10 once the expansion goes live. Fans won’t know for sure until The War Within launch comes closer, but it seems like traversing Azeroth will never be the same again either way.
