Warning: Spoilers for Dragonflight: Guardians of the Dream below.
The epilogue for the Guardians of the Dream update in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight finally gave the Night Elves a new home on Amirdrassil. During the finale cutscenes, World of Warcraft christens the new city with the name Bel’ameth, establishing a promising future for the displaced race after five years.
Patch 10.2 in World of Warcraft has been all about protecting Amirdrassil, the new World Tree planted by High Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind and nurtured by Merithra, Aspect of the Green Dragonflight. After being given the seed by the Winter Queen in Shadowlands, World of Warcraft fans have been waiting to see how this arc would resolve in Guardians of the Dream.
Now that the Amirdrassil raid is live with the start of World of Warcraft: Dragonflight Season 3, fans have access to the conclusion of the Patch 10.2 story. During one of the major cinematic moments after Fyrakk’s defeat, everyone gathers on Amirdrassil, which has now appeared off the western coast of the Dragon Isles. Tyrande steps forward and blesses the waters beneath the tree with a vial of moonwell water, saved from the Temple of Elune in Darnassus before its destruction, and bestows a new name on their future home: Bel’ameth, meaning “arms of the goddess” in the language of the Kaldorei.
What is the New Night Elf City in World of Warcraft?
- Bel’ameth, located beneath Amirdrassil, west of the Ohn’ahran plains on the Dragon Isles.
In the opening volleys of the fourth war during Battle for Azeroth, the Night Elves lost Teldrassil, the World Tree where many of them lived. For the past five years in real life, and about as many in game, the Night Elves and Worgen who lived on Teldrassil have been homeless. World of Warcraft finally moved these NPCs out of Stormwind at the beginning of Patch 10.2, and it seems they may finally have a new home after the update.
Fan reception to the cinematic has been mixed. While most agree the moment is undoubtedly touching, some believe the fact that World of Warcraft put the new World Tree on the Dragon Isles, on the other side of the world from their ancestral forests in Kalimdor, marred the otherwise beautiful scene. Other players have misgivings about the Night Elves needing a new home, when they could reclaim Hyjal, Darkshore, or any of the other contested territories they once called home. Either way, the vast majority are happy to see the Night Elves finally getting the chance to catch a break and put down roots again.
