Fury Warriors in World of Warcraft can now transmog one-handed weapons – including daggers – on their two-handed weapons as of the Midnight Pre-Expansion Update. This major World of Warcraft update introduced tons of changes to the transmog system, but this one wasn't even mentioned in the patch notes.

Transmog is the real endgame of World of Warcraft, and few parts of a player’s outfit are as important as their weapons. However, a few World of Warcraft classes sometimes struggle with weapon transmogs due to specialization restrictions. For example, Fury Warriors have a unique ability that lets them wield two-handed weapons in one hand called Titan’s Grip. However, fans who previously wanted to use one-handed weapon transmogs could only do so by speccing into Single-Minded Fury, a talent that came with a DPS loss.

Evidence suggests World of Warcraft may be considering additional new specializations for its classes after Devourer Demon Hunter.

World of Warcraft Fury Warrior and Dagger Transmog Changes

However, as of the Midnight Pre-Patch, Fury Warriors no longer have such restrictions. Though it was not mentioned anywhere in the patch notes, Fury Warriors now have a trait called Titan’s Grip: Single-Minded Fury, which enables one-handed weapons to be transmogged over two-handed weapons. This allows Fury Warriors to reap the mechanical benefits of dual-wielding two-handers while letting them use one-handed cosmetics, including popular World of Warcraft weapons like the Warglaives of Azzinoth or Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker.

Beyond this, Daggers are no longer in a unique weapon category of their own. As of this update, equipped Daggers can now be transmogged into One-Handed Swords, Fist Weapons, or other proficient items, while they can all be transformed into Daggers in turn.

While this applies to Fury Warriors as well, as they can now transmog their two-handed weapons into Daggers, many other classes benefit from this change. Rogues in particular win big, as Assassination and Subtlety Rogues in World of Warcraft are no longer locked to Daggers for transmogs, while Outlaws can cosmetically wield them if they want. However, Daggers are one of the more common weapon types, meaning all the following classes essentially just got a whole new weapon category to transmog:

  • Druid
  • Evoker
  • Hunter
  • Mage
  • Priest
  • Rogue
  • Shaman
  • Warlock
  • Warrior

What Else Changed With Transmogging in WoW: Midnight’s Pre-Expansion Update?

A lot of other changes came to the Transmog system in the World of Warcraft: Midnight Pre-Patch, with Outfits being the most prominent one. Players purchase and set up Outfits to automatically change equipped gear without needing to re-visit a transmog vendor, and can even save appearances for alternative weapon loadouts. This is especially useful for Mages or Warlocks, who might find a Staff gear upgrade that is better than their currently-equipped Dagger and Off-Hand, or Survival Hunters, who can now either dual-wield one-handed weapons or use two-handed ones interchangeably.

Applying transmogs has historically been free during the semi-annual Trial of Style event, so assuming this is still the case, fans might want to wait until the next event begins on March 20 to fix most of their transmogs.

Beyond this, players can also use the new Situations feature to automatically swap between Outfits under certain circumstances. Entering the water, going to World of Warcraft's new Housing districts or certain types of instances, or even transforming into Worgen or Dracthyr forms are just some of the different Situations that fans can set up.

With these changes, the next big ask many players have for transmog is the removal of armor class restrictions from the system. Final Fantasy 14 recently did so in the 7.4 update, and it was one of the most popular changes the critically-acclaimed MMORPG has made in a while. While Blizzard is still holding out for the sake of preserving class silhouettes, certain Trading Post, event, and cash shop sets already allow Cloth users to wear armor and Plate wearers to fight in dresses. Hopefully, World of Warcraft eventually pulls the ripcord and fully unlocks these transmog options so fans can mix and match to their heart’s content.
