Major spoilers for World of Warcraft: Midnight below.

World of Warcraft: Midnight features some shocking dungeon and raid encounters, including battles against familiar characters like Lothraxion, L’ura, and even Alleria Windrunner herself. From corrupted allies to Lightblinded crusaders, not all the bosses in World of Warcraft: Midnight will be as straightforward battles against Xal’atath’s minions.

From the revamped zones of Quel’Thalas and the Haranir Allied Race to the Devourer Demon Hunter and Prey system, there are plenty of new features coming in World of Warcraft: Midnight. Were that not exciting enough, Midnight is actually launching with three different raids: the six-boss Voidspire, a solo encounter in The Dreamrift, and a climactic duo of battles awaiting players in the March on Quel’Danas.

World of Warcraft Players Will Have To Wait a Little Longer to Try Player Housing

World of Warcraft has bad news for fans who were hoping to try out the Player Housing system ahead of its official debut as a part of Patch 11.2.7.

Alleria, Lothraxion, L'ura, and More are Bosses in WoW: Midnight

However, some of the battles fans will face in these raids will not be against Xal’atath’s Devouring Host. According to the encounter journal in the World of Warcraft: Midnight alpha, the final encounter of the Voidspire is called the Crown of the Cosmos and features none other than Alleria Windrunner herself, corrupted by the powers of the Void. Though it remains to be seen exactly what happens to her during the battle, the last boss of the March on Quel’Danas sheds some light on the matter, as it is against L’ura – the Naaru absorbed by Alleria in Legion, transforming her into a Void Elf. Now free, Xal’atath is seemingly using L’ura in an attempt to corrupt the Sunwell into the Darkwell.

Not all of these surprising encounters take place in Midnight’s raids. Lothraxion, the Lightforged Dreadlord and ally of the Vanguard of Light, is the last boss of the Nexus-Point Xenas dungeon. The journal entry says he was "blinded by betrayal," leading him on a solitary assault of the dungeon that threatens all of Azeroth, but it is currently unclear exactly how or why these events unfold ahead of the instance.

There are a few other familiar names that appear in the raids as well. Fallen-King Salhadaar, stripped of most of his power after betraying Xal’atath in Manaforge: Omega during WoW Patch 11.2, is also fought during the Voidspire, as is the Lightblind Vanguard – a trio of Paladins met in the Midnight story who, like Lothraxion, have turned against champions of Azeroth for some reason. Beyond that, players will mostly face brand-new foes, such as Imperator Averzian of the Dominaar, Chimaerus the Undreamt God, and Belo’ren, Child of Al’ar.

While many of these dungeon and raid encounters may be tested during alpha and beta, the battles against Alleria and L’ura will almost certainly not show up until the release of World of Warcraft: Midnight. However, fans may find some further context for the events leading up to them as more of the story becomes available for playtesting in subsequent weeks.
