World of Warcraft could bring Skyriding race courses to player housing neighborhoods during the Midnight expansion, according to data uncovered in the game's files. The discovery was made days after World of Warcraft launched its Patch 12.0 update, which laid the groundwork for Midnight's upcoming March 2 launch.

On January 20, World of Warcraft released the Midnight pre-expansion content update, which contained an assortment of changes to the game's main features. To start, World of Warcraft players had their characters' statistics and item levels changed significantly, as Patch 12.0 brought in another stat and item level "squish" to make damage and healing numbers easier for the game to manage. Plus, World of Warcraft's controversial add-on changes went into effect during the pre-expansion update. Although some add-ons will continue to work in World of Warcraft: Midnight, some updates are required to get them up and running.

World of Warcraft May Add Some Friendly Neighborhood Skyriding Courses

Although the March 2 release of World of Warcraft: Midnight is still weeks away as of this writing, a discovery could shed light on a potential addition to player housing neighborhoods. According to datamined spell strings from the Midnight beta client, World of Warcraft could add Skyriding race courses to both Founder's Point (Alliance) and Razorwind Shores (Horde). The spell strings were given the name "Going Postal," which could be used as a moniker for Skyriding race courses in each housing zone. Additionally, three racetrack routes were uncovered for each faction-based neighborhood, for a total of six potential courses that could be implemented during Midnight at some point. Although Skyriding is available as a way to get around Founder's Point and Razorwind Shores, there are currently no race courses in either neighborhood. Given that Blizzard has not commented on the datamined spell strings, WoW players should take the uncovered data with a fine grain of salt.

First introduced in the Dragonflight expansion as the Dragonriding feature, Skyriding was later expanded to incorporate all mounts capable of flight in World of Warcraft. Compared to the older Steady Flight mode, Skyriding allows WoW players to fly through the skies at a much faster pace through an active control scheme that requires players to pay attention to their surroundings. This fast-paced mode of transportation also allowed World of Warcraft to implement Skyriding race courses and events, including the Kalimdor Cup, throughout Azeroth's different zones.

Skyriding race courses require racers to fly through a set path of magical rings as fast as possible, with various ranks and achievements granted based on completion time. By completing each Skyriding race course available in World of Warcraft, players will unlock cosmetic armor pieces for their transmogrification collections.

The Player Housing System Will Continue to Evolve

Player housing neighborhoods have been available in early access since December 2025, with the launch of Patch 11.2.7. The final patch of The War Within expansion allowed players who pre-ordered Midnight to claim any available housing plot in Founder's Point or Razorwind Shores. With Patch 12.0's launch, the Endeavors feature was added to player housing neighborhoods. By completing simple tasks for visiting artisans, such as the Grummles of Pandaria and the Niffen of Zaralek Caverns, all players in a neighborhood contribute to a shared bar that fills up over time and unlocks rewards based on how much progress is made. Additionally, WoW's player housing will support a premium currency called Hearthsteel for buying specific housing items in later updates. Hearthsteel is planned to be obtained either via real money or through in-game gold via a WoW Token.

Given that Skyriding has proven to be a popular World of Warcraft feature, adding race courses to Founder's Point and Razorwind Shores may also lead to other events being hosted in each neighborhood. As World of Warcraft checks off more player housing requests, time will tell if Blizzard will give Skyriding fans some more content to look forward to during the Midnight expansion.
