Dragonriding is coming to old World of Warcraft zones soon, along with some new ways for Dracthyr, Druids, and other players to take to the skies. These awesome changes will roll out in the patches leading up to, and in, the next World of Warcraft expansion, The War Within.

Dragonflight introduced tons of new systems to World of Warcraft, including an updated UI, talent trees, and other quality of life features. However, among all of these new systems, Dragonriding, the new dynamic flying system, has been one of its most popular.

World of Warcraft Reveals More Details on Warbands, Hero Talents, and Great Vault Changes

In a Deep Dive panel at BlizzCon, World of Warcraft's game director gives more details on the systems coming to the game in The War Within expansion.

Though World of Warcraft had already confirmed Dragonriding was coming to old world zones, BlizzCon surprised players with how soon it would be arriving. Dynamic Flying, the new setting-agnostic name for Dragonriding, is coming to all flight-enabled zones in World of Warcraft in Patch 10.2.5. Karazaa, a senior gameplay software engineer on World of Warcraft who does a lot of work on Dragonriding and Dynamic Flying, also confirmed on his personal Twitter that other exciting features would be coming in Patch 10.2.5 and The War Within, including full Dracthyr Dynamic Flying and more Dragonriding mount options.

When is Dynamic Flying coming to the rest of World of Warcraft?

  • Patch 10.2.5 (early 2024)
    • Dynamic Flying in all flight-enabled World of Warcraft zones.
    • Dracthyr Soar racial ability using the full Dynamic Flying system.
  • The War Within, Patch 11.0 (2024)
    • Huge number of existing flying mounts, including Druid Flight Forms, enabled for Dynamic Flying.
    • Easy toggle between Dynamic and normal flying.
  • Patch 10.2 (November 7)
  • Right Now
    • Algarian Stormrider gryphon Dynamic Flying mount via the Heroic and Epic Edition pre-order of The War Within

Dragonriding traits will still be required to unlock the full potential of Dynamic Flying mounts. Considering Dragonflight will become the new default leveling experience from level 10-70 in The War Within, players will likely still have to collect all the glyphs in the Dragon Isles zones to learn these abilities. Luckily, after players do this once, subsequent characters will have access to all the traits immediately.

Fans are understandably ecstatic to see this feature finally coming to the rest of the game. Dynamic Flying in the old world via World of Warcraft’s Dragonriding Race events has been a blast, so players are thrilled to see the system fully implemented so soon. Come next year, flying in World of Warcraft will never be the same again.
