Summary

  • Primal Storms in WoW Dragonflight are glitchy, frustrating players trying to complete achievements like Into the Storm.
  • Storm Chaser achievement requires killing enemies in different zones, but Azure Span spawns more storms, making it difficult.
  • Players hoping for more Primal Storms spawns to earn A World Awoken achievement in WoW Dragonflight are left disappointed.

World of Warcraft’s Primal Storms have been acting strangely over the past several days, with the event occasionally spawning twice at once, or not popping up at all. This erratic behavior has made it difficult for some World of Warcraft players to complete its accompanying achievements.

The Primal Storms are one of the first world events World of Warcraft added in Dragonflight. This activity periodically spawns around the Dragonflight zones, empowering enemies with the elements, spawning special bosses, and dropping a unique type of currency called Elemental Overflow. Into the Storm, an achievement with four sub-achievements within it, is required to unlock A World Awoken, a new World of Warcraft meta achievement that awards the Taivan mount.

World of Warcraft: The War Within's Warband System Explained

The World of Warcraft: The War Within is just around the corner and the expansion includes a major alt-friendly Warband update.

However, ever since the weekly reset that began on April 2, the Primal Storms have been acting erratically, causing confusion and frustration among fans. For a short while, the event began spawning two storms at once, making it much easier to find the appropriate elements and locations for players to finish their achievements. Then, about 75 hours after the reset, the double storm events ceased – and for a short while, no Primal Storms spawned at all. At press time, the activity has gone back to spawning one at a time, much to the disappointment of fans trying to earn Into the Storm.

Primal Storms Achievements in WoW: Dragonflight

  • Storm Chaser – Kill 200 enemies infused with each of the four elements in each of the four zones (3200 enemies total).
  • Stormed Off – Kill 8 rare spawns in Primal Storms.
  • Elemental Overload – Obtain 5000 Elemental Overload.
  • Storming the Runway – Buy a complete armor set with Elemental Overload.

The Storm Chaser achievement is the culprit behind this frustration, as players must kill enemies in Primal Storms of each element in each the four WoW: Dragonflight zones. Unfortunately, the Azure Span has more Primal Storms spawn points than Thaldraszus, the Ohn’ahran Plains, or the Waking Shores, meaning it appears there three to six times as often, making it hard to complete this requirement.

When Dragonflight first added the Primal Storms to World of Warcraft, two storms would spawn at a time. However, as Dragonflight added more world activities in subsequent WoW patches, the number of Primal Storms was reduced to one spawn. Now that players have a renewed interest in the Primal Storms to earn the new A World Awoken meta achievement, the dearth of event spawns, combined with the seeming fake out of increasing their rate again, has been felt more keenly than it otherwise would have been.

Hopefully, World of Warcraft can figure out the Primal Storms event spawning issue, and ideally restore it to having two event spawns for a time to help players earn this achievement. At the very least, there is no time limit on earning A World Awoken, so fans can work on the other World of Warcraft achievements while they wait for the right spawns.
