World of Warcraft just revealed an official preview of what’s to come in Patch 10.1, Embers of Neltharion. As the first major content patch of Dragonflight, this World of Warcraft patch promises to dig even deeper into draconic lore than ever before.
Patch 10.1 is a substantial content patch coming to World of Warcraft very soon. This major update will be coming to Dragonflight in two major installments: one on May 2, and another on May 9.
The May 2 update introduces the bulk of Embers of Neltharion to Dragonflight. Players will be able to explore the new Zaralek Cavern zone, participate in new overworld activities, and experience a whole new campaign to the story of Dragonflight. Cross-faction guilds are being added to the game, and a new system for upgrading items is coming through the new Niffen Renown faction in World of Warcraft. The popular Dragonriding system is also being expanded with more glyphs and abilities, as well as a new type of base mount, the Winding Slitherdrake.
On May 9, World of Warcraft is throwing open the gates of Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible, the second raid in Dragonflight. Players will plumb the depths of Neltharion’s ancient research facility, battling Djaradin warlords and twisted experiments to collect brand-new tier sets. Season 2 of Mythic+ kicks off with all new rewards and dungeons to challenge. Above ground, Fyrakk will take to the sky in a new world event where players will fend off the mad Primal Incarnate to earn special rewards, cosmetics, and more.
Beyond that, World of Warcraft players can expect new customization options, quality-of-life improvements, and balance updates. Most classes can expect some fine-tuning, but others, like Shadow Priest, are being reworked. World of Warcraft is even adding new side story quests, including one hinting at the return of an unexpected character from Legion and another exploring the Blue Dragonflight.
With Patch 10.1 right around the corner, WoW players are already looking forward to what comes after that. Rumors swirl about where World of Warcraft will go in 10.2 and beyond, with players wondering who the final boss of Dragonflight might be. Speculation aside, WoW’s aggressive release schedule means players won’t have to wait too long to find out. 10.1 is the third of six planned patches for 2023, the last of which will be 10.2 this winter. Players can expect to start seeing even more hints as to where the story of Dragonflight is headed during Embers of Neltharion and in the updates that follow.
World of Warcraft is available now for PC.
