World of Warcraft just debuted its official launch cinematic for Dragonflight. Titled “Take to the Skies,” this beautiful cinematic shows off what awaits players in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight in high definition.
The new launch cinematic debuted during World of Warcraft’s pre-launch stream held in celebration of the second phase of the Dragonflight pre-patch. The short stream featured several World of Warcraft developers talking about what players could look forward to until the Dragonflight launch.
The cinematic itself is a beautiful tour of the Dragon Isles, the new continent added in Dragonflight. An Alliance dwarf and a Horde troll take to the skies on their dragon mount companions, engaging in a friendly race throughout the new zones in Dragonflight. Then, Razageth the Storm Eater, the major antagonist and final raid boss of the first raid in Dragonflight, appears to terrorize the jockeys. The camera briefly pans to the dracthyr Scalecommander Emberthal showing off some of her powerful Evoker magic, before returning to the twin riders. They are joined by the Dragon Queen Alexstrasza, who uses her life-giving magic to revitalize a forest before flying off into the sunset.
There has yet to be a disappointing cinematic trailer in World of Warcraft’s long history. Players have been enraptured by the cinematic team’s ability to breathe life into World of Warcraft since the very first trailer in Vanilla. The Dragonflight launch cinematic did a fantastic job of showcasing the atmosphere of adventure, mystery, and danger World of Warcraft seeks to create with the new expansion.
As expected, World of Warcraft fans instantly fell in love with the new cinematic. Players especially enjoyed seeing the comradery between the Alliance and Horde character as they explored the Dragon Isles–further proof that World of Warcraft’s long-running faction war is over. Many players were charmed by the How To Train Your Dragon vibes they got from the new Dragonflight trailer, and many couldn’t help but compare Razageth to Vhagar from House of the Dragon.
Though brief, Emberthal’s appearance in the trailer showcased how cool the new dracthyr Evoker race class combo is. Considering her prominence in this trailer and the Dragonflight Legacies animated shorts, it seems Emberthal is being set up as a major character, and the faction-neutral representative for the dracthyr. With the second phase of the Dragonflight pre-patch now live, players who have purchased the new expansion can log in to create a dracthyr Evoker of their own, and can take to the skies of the Dragon Isles in just a couple of weeks.
World of Warcraft is available on PC. Dragonflight launches on November 28.
