World of Warcraft just shared an official preview video for Follower Dungeons, a new feature coming in Patch 10.2.5, Seeds of Renewal. Using Follower Dungeons, fans can enter select World of Warcraft instances with NPC followers, allowing them to experience encounters and try out new roles without the pressure of partying with other players.

Seeds of Renewal is the first of three content updates planned before World of Warcraft: The War Within. This patch brings new story content, customization options, and gameplay features to the game, and is planned for release on January 16. Follower Dungeons are one such new feature that allows players to queue into Normal Dragonflight dungeons with a group of NPC allies.

Now, World of Warcraft has shared an official preview for Follower Dungeons. The short video was narrated by PlatinumWoW–a famous World of Warcraft content creator who has been featured in several official videos recently, including one for WoW Classic Season of Discovery. He highlighted some of the best parts of Follower Dungeons, including the fact they can help players try out new roles without any pressure, experience dungeons at their own pace, and team up with friends without waiting in a dungeon queue. Follower Dungeon NPCs even jump around in battle like real players to help create a truly immersive experience.

World of Warcraft Follower Dungeon Features

  • Enter all eight Dragonflight normal mode dungeons with NPC party members.
  • Queue solo or with up to three other players, with NPCs filling in any other blank spots.
  • Control the pace of NPCs by having them lead or follow players through the dungeon, letting them try out new roles.
  • Party NPCs are familiar World of Warcraft characters from the Exile’s Reach starting experience.
  • NPCs mimic players by jumping around, providing clever commentary and congratulating victories, or giving hints on how to defeat bosses.

Many fans are glad WoW is adding Follower Dungeons to the game. Learning how to tank and heal in World of Warcraft can be tricky, and pressure from strangers can convince some players not to even try in the first place. Most fans agree being able to queue for these instances is a great way to help players trying to learn a new role, level an alt, collect transmogs, or simply experience these dungeons at their leisure.

Follower Dungeons also set a great precedent for future World of Warcraft content. The new WoW feature is similar to Final Fantasy 14’s Duty Support system, which enables players to complete any story dungeon with a team of lore NPCs. If World of Warcraft does the same, it may be able to weave even stronger stories in the Worldsoul Saga by letting dungeons become a part of the main narrative.
