World of Warcraft is giving Ebyssian a model update befitting of his position as the new Black Dragon Aspect. This makeover is ostensibly coming as a part of the next World of Warcraft content update.
Recently, World of Warcraft revealed Patch 10.1.7, Fury Incarnate. Though a smaller update, this patch includes a generous helping of content, including new character customizations for several playable races, Heritage Armor quests for Night Elves and Forsaken, and the Dreamsurges public activity in the Dragon Isles.
However, World of Warcraft players discovered a new model in the Patch 10.1.7 Public Test Realm that may indicate something exciting for the Dragon Aspects. Ebyssian, the Black Dragonflight’s new leader, is getting a new model. The Highmountain Tauren is sporting armor reminiscent of Neltharion’s visage and the gear World of Warcraft players can get through Fyrakk Assaults. The most striking detail is his massive antlers, which now burn with molten fire.
Ebyssian was first encountered in Legion as Ebonhorn, the ancient spirit guide of the Highmountain tribe. After he was revealed to be a dragon, Ebyssian appeared in Battle for Azeroth and Dragonflight alongside Wrathion, before finally being chosen as the new Aspect of the Black Dragonflight in World of Warcraft. Though the exact details of when and how this makeover happens are uncertain, it seems Ebyssian is leaning into his Black Dragon heritage over his cultural upbringing in Highmountain as Ebonhorn.
Players are torn on what to think of Ebyssian’s new design. Most agree Ebyssian deserves the new model in World of Warcraft considering he is an Aspect now. On the other hand, some think the armor is too much of a departure from his original aesthetic, and think Ebyssian’s Aspect outfit should evoke more of his original identity as Ebonhorn. That said, virtually every player agrees that his molten lava antlers are impressive.
With Ebyssian’s new model, every Aspect has received a makeover in Dragonflight except for Merithra. The daughter of Ysera–who herself received a new model after her return from Ardenweald–is officially in charge of the Green Dragonflight now, and Patch 10.2 is almost certainly revolving around protecting Amirdrassil, the new World Tree of World in World of Warcraft. Players will have to wait and see if Merithra will finally receive a unique visage in the upcoming updates, and if both she and Ebyssian get unique dragon models, once the leaders have the chance to fully embrace their new roles as Aspects.
World of Warcraft is available now for PC.
