World of Warcraft Classic has made the Warlock Metamorphosis Rune possible to obtain outside Blackfathom Deeps in the Season of Discovery. This popular change came quickly after World of Warcraft fans voiced their dissatisfaction with the role-bending Rune being locked behind the raid.
The new Season of Discovery servers hold many secrets within them, least of all being the addition of Runes, powerful, class-specific enchantments that grant special abilities, passives, and even new roles for certain classes. One of the most popular ones is the Warlock’s Metamorphosis Rune, which allows them to transform into a demon and become a tank. However, fans were upset to discover the first stage of the unlock quest was inside Blackfathom Deeps, the capstone raid during the first level cap of WoW Classic Season of Discovery.

After Discovering a Rune in the Season of Discovery, players need to actually equip Runes to their gear – follow this guide to learn how.
World of Warcraft heard its fans and, in a recent hotfix for WoW Classic, added the Twilight Acolyte NPCs who drop the required item outside the raid. Senior game producer Josh Greenfield, also known as Aggrend, apologized for making this mistake on his personal Twitter, and explained that it happened via miscommunication. Aggrend clarified WoW Classic didn’t want to have any Runes locked behind raids, and will try to avoid doing so in the future.

Fans were obviously glad World of Warcraft made this change, but they were also impressed by Aggrend’s grace and punctuality while doing so. While many expected the Rune to stay locked behind the WoW Classic Season of Discovery raid, the devs defied expectations by not only fixing it, but apologized with transparency and humility, winning no small amount of favor from the community in the process.
Players interested in a new spin on Classic WoW might want to consider giving Season of Discovery a shot. With the ability for Warlocks, Shamans, Rogues, and Mages to take on new World of Warcraft roles via Runes, fans will certainly discover something new if they do.
