World of Warcraft is discontinuing Paid Character Transfers between Battle.net accounts linked to the same name in The War Within pre-patch. Though few fans are likely to need to use this feature, those who do should be sure to before World of Warcraft removes it on July 23.
Like many MMORPGs, World of Warcraft offers a plethora of game services players can buy from the in-game store. From Character Boosts and Faction Transfers to Name and Race Changes, fans can alter anything but their class in World of Warcraft for a small fee.
However, it seems like World of Warcraft is removing one functionality of these game services soon. According to a recent announcement, World of Warcraft is discontinuing the ability to transfer a character to a different Battle.net account via the Paid Character Transfer service. Fans can still make these transfers now, but will be unable to do so as of July 23, along with the pre-expansion update for World of Warcraft: The War Within.
WoW Character Transfers Between Battle.net Accounts Discontinued
- As of July 23, 2024, players will no longer be able to use Paid Character Transfers to move characters between linked Battle.net accounts.
- Paid Character Transfers between realms, and between World of Warcraft accounts on a single Battle.net account, will still be available.
This aspect of the Paid Character Transfer service is relatively obscure. The service itself will still function as it did before for players moving between realms, and for those who have multiple World of Warcraft accounts on a single Battle.net account – this change only affects the small number of people who have more than one Battle.net account. However, if fans have more than one account, and need to move characters between them, they should be sure to use this World of Warcraft game service before it is retired.
Interestingly enough, this isn’t the only change to game services ahead of the launch of The War Within. World of Warcraft is also temporarily disabling the free character restoration feature during The War Within pre-patch to give the Warbands system room to breathe, though it plans to restore it a few weeks later. On the other hand, the paid Guild Realm and Faction Transfer services are being retired on July 22, a day before the Pre-Patch. Like the Battle.net account character transfer, these services have become largely obsolete, leading to their removal in an effort for World of Warcraft to tidy up its in-game store to prepare for the next era of WoW in The War Within.
