Summary

  • The Restore Character button in World of Warcraft is back after a lengthy absence.
  • Now, players can restore characters once every 7 days, except if they have 65 characters.
  • There are certain conditions that disqualify characters for restoration in World of Warcraft.

World of Warcraft has officially re-enabled the Restore Character button after nearly two months. Though it was not seemingly mentioned in any hotfix or announcement, World of Warcraft players can officially use the Restore Character function once again.

The Warbands system is a blanket of quality-of-life features World of Warcraft implemented during The War Within Pre-Patch. Geared towards making as many things account-wide as possible, this huge update changed a great deal about the backend of how characters communicate information. Because of this, World of Warcraft temporarily disabled the Character Restoration service, giving no exact time for when it would return.

World of Warcraft Adding Useful Quality of Life Feature for Warbands in Patch 11.0.5

World of Warcraft adds a new Warbands quality of life feature in Patch 11.0.5 that makes managing multiple characters much easier than before.

Now, it seems like World of Warcraft has finally figured out how to restore this feature. As of now, the Character Restoration button can be used once again, letting fans restore a qualifying character once every seven days. The return of this feature came with little fanfare, as it was not documented in any patch notes or hotfixes. Nevertheless, players can now use it as long as they have deleted toons who qualify for restoration – assuming they do not already have 65 characters on their World of Warcraft account.

How Does Character Restoration Work in WoW?

  • The Restore Character button, found next to the Create a New Character button on the login screen, can be used to un-delete a character once every seven days.
  • Certain conditions disqualify characters for restoration:
    • Under level 10 or on a Class Trial
    • An Allied Race or Hero class at their starting level
    • 90 days after deletion if between levels 10 and 29
    • 120 days after deletion if between levels 30 and 49
  • If a WoW account already has 65 characters, the Restore Character button will not be visible.
  • Players may be prompted to rename their restored character if their previous name was taken after they were deleted.

It appears as if characters who were deleted during the time when Character Restoration was unavailable are eligible for being restored, so long as they meet the normal qualifications for the feature. If players need to bring back a character they deleted since the Pre-Expansion Update for WoW: The War Within on July 23, they should be able to do so, provided the character is above level 10.

Now is the perfect time to consider restoring old deleted characters. The upcoming 20th anniversary event for World of Warcraft is perfect for leveling new toons, as they can get an extra 20% bonus to their experience gains during it. With it, a restored character could easily reach the level cap and become a new endgame character without too much work.
