World of Warcraft has been around for nearly 20 years. In that time, the game has changed drastically since its initial release in 2004. World of Warcraft has had nine expansions since then, and has three more that are currently in development as part of the World Soul Saga. With so much content on the horizon, it's clear that World of Warcraft is here to stay.
But sometimes it can be fun to reflect on where things began and how they got to where they are now. Originally, the Anniversary event was just an achievement and a pet that players got upon logging into the game. Since then, the Anniversary has become a proper in-game celebration. The 19th Anniversary is very similar to previous years, but here is what players can expect for this year's event.
How to Start the Anniversary Event
When logging in for the first time, players will receive a Feat of Strength achievement. There are no rewards associated with the achievement. To begin the festivities, head to the nearest mailbox and pick up the package that will be waiting in a letter from the WoW Dev Team. This package will contain the following items:
- 200 Timewarped Badges
- Celebration Firework
- Lil' Frostwing
- Invitation from the Timewalkers
- Celebration Package (When used, it increases EXP and Reputation gains by 19% for the duration of the event)
Before doing anything else, right-click on the Invitation as it begins a quest. Just like last year, a big party is being thrown at the Caverns of Time in Tanaris. While players can fly there if they are in Kalimdor, both Stormwind and Orgrimmar will have a portal room that they can use to get to the Caverns of Time immediately.
Talk to Chromie
Upon arriving at the entrance to the Caverns of Time, fly down to the nexus where all the entrances to the dungeons and raids are. Turn the quest in to Chromie, and she will offer two new quests, including one for killing the world boss that is outside the Caverns of Time. Since this quest gives gold and more Timewarped Badges, players will want to pick this up first before fighting the boss.
Anniversary Party
Before going out to fight Doomwalker, players may want to take this time to explore. There is a vendor that sells some of the old rewards from previous anniversary events, and Leeroy Jenkins makes an appearance as a vendor selling chicken. In reference to the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj event from back in 2006, there is a Scarab Gong that can be rung but (obviously) does not reward a title or mount.
Trivia Questions & Answers
Just like previous years, there is a daily quest where players have to correctly answer a trivia question about something in World of Warcraft. This guide will be updated with answers to questions as this event progresses.

Doomwalker
Doomwalker is a world boss first seen in Outland during The Burning Crusade. Doomwalker was introduced as an anniversary boss during last year's event, and it has returned once again. When players kill it for the first time, they get a toy along with a new mount called the Azure Worldchiller. While the boss can be tagged by anyone, players may want to form a group to reduce the likelihood of a staggering repair bill from multiple deaths. Other than the mount and toy, Doomwalker can be killed once per day for a chance at item level 441 loot.
The Old Bosses Return
Speaking of 441 loot, the classic world bosses from vanilla World of Warcraft return once again for this year's anniversary event. There is Doom Lord Kazzak in the Blasted Lands, Azuregos in Azshara, and the four Dragons of Nightmare. One of the four dragons, Kazzak, and Azuregos can all be killed once per day for even more chances at item level 441 loot. Since the new raid just came out, this is a great opportunity for players to improve their gear if they want to take on Fyrak and end his destructive campaign.
Old Alterac Valley
Alterac Valley was one of the first battlegrounds added to the game. Prior to the changes made to it, this battleground could potentially last for hours if not longer. As part of the anniversary event, Blizzard released a special version of Alterac Valley that uses the old rules. Through a series of quests and objectives within Alterac Valley, players can earn either a Stormpike Battle Ram or a Frostwolf Snarler mount.
Since this version of Alterac Valley does not have a time limit, it can potentially take hours to complete a single match if both sides end up in a stalemate. Be prepared for such a scenario to occur, as it is likely.
The 19th Anniversary event lasts until December 7th, so players have time to gear up or try to get the mount from Alterac Valley.
