Although there are some extremely popular clones of Wordle, the original is hosted on the New York Times Games website. All other versions of Wordle will have different answers and may even have slightly different rules.

First, head to the site and choose the best starting Wordle word. It must be five letters long and a real English word. Wordle answers are usually the American version of words, like FIBER over FIBRE. If the answer is a noun, it is never the plural version, like NESTS or MARKS. After choosing a good staring word, type it into the site and press enter. The letters will change color.

Green letters are right.
Gray letters are wrong.
Yellow letters are correct but are in the incorrect place in the word.

Using these colors as clues, players have five more tries to get to the answer. Puzzles reset daily at midnight local time, so there is only one word to guess every day. This is why there are so many Wordle clones and why some of them have become so popular.
