Wordle is a browser-based word puzzle game that went viral earlier this year. After that, Wordle was purchased by the New York Times Games site for a surprising amount of money. But in spite of its fame, some have yet to play the game, and may need some help with the rules, some hints for today's word, or even the full spoiler.
How To Play Wordle
In order to play the original version of Wordle, players will need to use their browser to head to the NYTs Games site. After that, they need to choose a starting word. It must be a five-letter word for Wordle, and it must be a real English word. Most players have a starting word that they use regularly, and some choose a new word every day with some of the more common letters used in puzzles, like L, R, S, and T.
Once a starting Wordle word is chosen, players need to type it into the site and press enter. This will cause the letters to change color in order to give them some clues as to the real word of the day. The colors are:
- Green = correct
- Gray = incorrect
- Yellow = correct, but in the wrong position in the word.
Players have a total of six tries to guess the answer. Wordle words can contain duplicated letters, like BRASS, and are more likely to be the American spelling of words, like HONOR over HONOUR. Puzzles reset daily at midnight local time. After completing a puzzle, successfully or not, players will get access to the menu where the Share button and their Wordle stats are.
