A brand new behind-the-scenes video from the set of the long awaited movie, Wonka, teases Timothee Chalamet's performance as well as a possible new child character being thrown into the mix.
Considering that not much other than the timeline of Warner Bros.' Wonka has been revealed, fans are more than eager to get their hands on any behind- the-scenes footage that they can. Luckily, fans have received yet another sweet treat to tide themselves over for the time being. The video showcases Chalamet on the Wonka set in full Victorian costume, complete with a cane, top hat, and lots of velvet. The clip is only 4 seconds long, but as Chalamet plays around with his cane on set, fans have also spotted a newcomer.
A new child character has now been introduced through this short sneak clip, which just so happens to be actress Calah Lane. Fans have no idea what this means, or what type of character Lane will be stepping into, but the promise of a new child character is most definitely on the horizon. In the video, Chalamet and Lane seem to be goofing off and having a great time while on set together. It will be more than exciting to see how Lane’s character fits into the puzzle of Wonka's past.
Chalamet has had yet another busy, but incredibly successful year in which he seemed to give one outstanding performance after the other with relative ease. In just this past year, The 26-year-old actor has starred in Wes Anderson's French Dispatch as well as two other films that are nominated for Best Picture - Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi hit Dune and Adam McKay's satire on climate change, Don’t Look Up.
Now that Chalamet finally has some space cleared out in his schedule, he is focusing all his energy on his upcoming role as the legendary Willy Wonka for the prequel movie. Paddington director Paul King and writer Simon Farnaby will be at the helm of the musical fantasy film. Although the film hasn’t technically been categorized as a “musical” per say, Wonka is set to feature multiple musical numbers throughout its duration. Wonka serves as a prelude to the 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which was written by Roald Dahl. The famous novel and storyline has been adapted into a feature film twice before.
However, this will be the very first time fans get to hear the story of Willy Wonka before all of his success and booming factories. Wonka will follow Chalamet, a younger version of the eccentric chocolatier during the early days of his career as the iconic candy maker. 2005’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, starring Johnny Depp as the lead, did feature some very brief glimpses of Wonka's past, depicting painful childhood memories of him being severely bullied as a kid. It will be very interesting to see which tone and direction Wonka chooses to explore, whether it will be a much darker narrative or perhaps more innocent, given the timeline is a nod to the past.
Wonka is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 17, 2023.
