Wolfeye Studios has revealed the first details about its second-ever game, an unnamed first-person action RPG that is already open for private alpha signups. The company, which is largely composed of former Arkane Studios employees, even teased its upcoming project with some distinct-looking imagery.
Wolfeye Studios was founded in 2019 by Raphael Colantonio, the founder and former president of Arkane Studios, known for games such as Arx Fatalis, Prey, and the Dishonored series. Colantonio said he left AAA development in pursuit of greater creative freedom, eager to take more risks and experiment with a variety of ideas. Wolfeye's first game was released in March 2022 in the form of Weird West, a critically acclaimed isometric RPG with immersive sim elements.

Wolfeye's Retro Sci-Fi First-Person ARPG Starts Active Development
During this year's edition of Game Developers Conference held in late March 2024, Wolfeye shared an image of its Austin office depicting a whiteboard featuring the words "first person" and "retro sci-fi." Five months later, the company has now confirmed that the GDC teaser was indeed hinting at its next game, which it says will be of the role-playing variety. The mysterious first-person RPG has just wrapped up pre-production and started active development, Wolfeye revealed. The Texas-based studio also shared three renders from the unnamed project, which show a brownish canyon and a few pieces of retro futuristic machinery, including some kind of workshop robot and an imposing drone.
Wolfeye Opens Closed Alpha Signups For Its Mysterious Game
Fans intrigued by the concept of a first-person sci-fi ARPG from the makers of Dishonored and Prey can already sign up for a chance to participate in the game's private alpha via Wolfeye's website. The studio did not share any concrete details on the scope of this testing initiative, though it did say that the closed alpha will have limited spots available. The test is planned to take place sometime in 2025.
While Weird West was published by Devolver Digital, Wolfeye is still looking for "the right publishing partner" for its next project, Colantonio said in a prepared statement. On the subject of the 2025 closed alpha test, the Wolfeye president and creative director labeled it as reflective of the studio's ambitions to get its fans more involved in its next project's development. The company was already moving in this direction with Weird West, which received a closed beta shortly ahead of its early 2022 debut.
Colantonio believes that fans of past Arkane Studios games he was involved in, ranging from Prey to Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, will "feel at home" with Wolfeye's next title, as will RPG aficionados, in general. If the company's unnamed first-person RPG were to follow a similar development cycle to Weird West, it could hit the market as early as 2027. Wolfeye's debut title also suggests that its next project is in development for both PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as PC. However, no target platforms have yet been officially mentioned by the Austin-based studio.
