Wolfenstein and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle developer MachineGames has teased its next project. The move, arriving as part of a message commemorating the company's latest anniversary, sparked widespread speculation from MachineGames fans.
Headquartered in Uppsala, Sweden, MachineGames has released over half a dozen titles since its humble beginnings in 2009, when it was founded by seven former Starbreeze Studios employees before being acquired by (now-Microsoft-owned) ZeniMax Media a year later. The company's latest game was Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which debuted on the Xbox Series X/S and PC in December 2024 before making its way to the PlayStation 5 this April.
A Wolfenstein 3 Could Work Wonders with Indiana Jones’ Best Weapon
While the two MachineGames titles have little in common, a third Wolfenstein could learn a lot from one of Indiana Jones' coolest weapons.
MachineGames Teases Next Game in 15th Anniversary Poster
On October 10, MachineGames commemorated its first 15 years at ZeniMax Media with a poster featuring covers of five of its past titles, including Wolfenstein: The Old Blood and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. The design also incorporates a sixth slot, which is a placeholder, adorned by a curiosity-piquing question mark. Separately, MachineGames Lead Prop Artist Pontus Wåhlin expressed excitement about the studio's "upcoming projects," plural, suggesting the company has more than one title currently in the works.
Another AAA Indiana Jones Game May Happen—Eventually
The social media teaser sparked hundreds of comments from fans speculating on what MachineGames' next project might be. The most realistic theories floated by social media users include a new Wolfenstein title and another Indy game. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer hinted at the possibility of an Indiana Jones and the Great Circle sequel back in April 2025, saying the game's success proved that the long-running franchise still has "life left." Although another Indiana Jones game may only be a question of time, it's not necessarily the likeliest candidate for MachineGames' next project.
In an early September 2025 documentary by YouTuber Noclip, MachineGames boss Jerk Gustafsson hinted at a third Wolfenstein game being on the cards. Apart from saying that the Swedish studio has always imagined its revival series as a trilogy, he outright stated that the company is "not done" with the franchise just yet. The comments echo those of the now-retired Bethesda VP Pete Hines, who in 2018 said that Wolfenstein 3 was "absolutely" happening, but noted that MachineGames was simply "taking a break" at the time.
The likelihood that Wolfenstein 3 is finally the next item on the studio’s agenda appears increasingly strong in light of the recently announced live-action Wolfenstein series, currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios. ZeniMax’s experience with the Amazon-produced Fallout TV adaptation—which reignited global interest in the franchise throughout 2024 but left fans clamoring for a new game—may also influence its strategy. This time, the company could seek to synchronize the Wolfenstein show’s debut with the release of a major new entry in the series, maximizing cross-media momentum.
