More details about the rumored Wolfenstein 3 have emerged, thanks to a leaked casting call. It's been more than five years since the release of Youngblood and almost nine since the last mainline game in MachineGames' revamped series, leaving fans hungry for more. While the next Wolfenstein title still lacks any official confirmation, it's getting harder to doubt that something is incoming, possibly with a reveal before long.
Wolfenstein 3 rumors have been circulating for several years at this point. Bethesda said it was working on it all the way back in 2018, and series director Jerk Gustafsson said MachineGames had always envisioned Wolfenstein as a trilogy in a 2025 documentary. In that same interview, Gustafsson said the studio still had stories to tell in the franchise, and while that doesn't necessarily mean a new mainline game is in development, it makes the rumors difficult to ignore. With MachineGames remaining silent for now, a new leak has just poured gasoline on the fire.

Wolfenstein is a franchise that has often played second fiddle to others in the gaming industry, but it deserves recognition for some of its games.
Leaked Casting Call Reveals Wolfenstein 3 Details
A casting call obtained by MP1st seemingly confirmed that Wolfenstein 3 is, in fact, real, but more interestingly, gave fans their first look at the game's plot and characters. Multiple sources have claimed Wolfenstein 3 is currently in development but haven't offered any details beyond that, but this casting call names a new character: a girl named Sofiya. According to the leaked description, Sofiya is a Ukranian orphan between 8 and 11 years old who joins the series' main protagonist, William "BJ" Blazkowicz, in his travels, alongside her dog, Ralph. It's unclear if Sofiya will be a playable character, but it sounds like she will play an important role in the plot, given her close ties to BJ and her character arc of becoming "a strong-willed survivor."

The return of BJ Blazkowicz is not surprising, considering how he was the main character of the previous two mainline Wolfenstein games. However, the introduction of Sofiya could add an interesting dynamic and let the story start to branch away from the Blazkowicz family. Because Wolfenstein: Youngblood confirms BJ lives at least 20 years after killing Hitler, it minimizes the stakes around BJ as a protagonist, as fans know he won't die. The same does not apply to Sofiya, as a newcomer to the story, so she could become the driving emotional force of Wolfenstein 3's story. It also sounds like the game could center around a loose parent-child dynamic a la The Last of Us and Telltale's The Walking Dead. Still, it's important to remember that any such assumptions are just speculation without further details from MachineGames itself.
The leaked casting call may also offer some insight into Wolfenstein 3's release timeline. It reportedly states performance capture will begin in April 2026, with other shooting dates being scheduled for later in the year and possibly into 2027. If most of the mocap happens in mid 2026, it could set the game up for a late 2027 or 2028 release, depending on how the rest of development goes. That would also make sense if MachineGames began working on it after wrapping up on Indiana Jones and the Great Circle in late 2024, given previous Wolfenstein games' two-and-a-half to three-year production timelines. While the Wolfenstein studio teased its next game in 2025, possibly making some fans expect an earlier launch, it gave no release window at the time.
Looking beyond the games, there is a Wolfenstein Amazon series currently in development, though that also lacks a release date as of right now. Bethesda also celebrates its 40th anniversary in June 2026, which could make an ideal time for a big announcement, but there's no telling what, if anything, the company will choose to reveal then.
