Fans won't get to see The Witcher season 2 until 2021, but that hasn't stopped some information about the show from leaking online. The latest rumor claims to reveal one of the monsters that will be seen in The Witcher season 2, and it's a creature that has never appeared properly in the book series.
According to The Witcher Netflix news site Redanian Intelligence, the show's second season will introduce the leshy monster. Leshys are mentioned in The Witcher books but are never actually featured in a story. The best look fans have gotten of them have come from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, where they are referred to as leshens.
Fans have also seen Leshens outside of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. They were a part of the Monster Hunter/Witcher crossover event, and can be encountered in The Witcher tabletop game as well. Considering how much leshens have been used in Witcher media, it wouldn't be a huge surprise for them to show up in The Witcher season 2.
Besides confirming that the leshen or leshy will be in The Witcher season 2, Redanian Intelligence also reports that the creature will have a major role in the show. Apparently, an encounter between the leshy and one of the characters will have "serious consequences" for the plot moving forward. Redanian Intelligence stops short of specifying exactly which character will encounter the leshy, however.
If The Witcher season 2 does indeed feature leshy, it will be interesting to see what they look like. It's possible that The Witcher Netflix series will take inspiration from the video games when it comes to bringing the leshy to light, but that seems unlikely. After all, The Witcher Netflix series went to great lengths to avoid making the Nilfgaardian armor look the same as their video game counterpart, though that resulted in some mixed reactions from the community.
In the meantime, it remains to be seen what other monsters will appear in The Witcher season 2. The Witcher season 1 had a variety of creatures that the characters encountered over the course of the show, including djinn, dragons, and more. One has to imagine that The Witcher season 2 will look to up the ante when it comes to monsters, though that remains to be seen.
The Witcher season 2 premieres in 2021.
