Summary

  • A heartwarming moment was created as a father and son played Gwent together on a homemade table with custom cards.
  • Gwent's popularity in The Witcher community has fans hopeful for more in future Witcher games.

Although The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt may not be known for too many of its wholesome moments, a father and son have rectified this by taking part in a touching game of Gwent together, complete with a homemade table and custom-printed cards, that would even make the cold-hearted Gaunter O’Dimm melt. Gwent is one of the most enjoyable mini-games in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, where players can spend hours challenging other characters to a round or two of the turn-based card game. When a game is so well-made that even its mini-games inspire devotion among its fanbase, it's safe to assume that developer CD Projekt Red has done something right.

Given Gwent's massive popularity within The Witcher community, there are high hopes that CDPR will continue to flesh the card game out, with some hoping to see a new approach to the mini-game when the next installment in the franchise eventually releases. Although virtually nothing official is known about The Witcher 4 just yet, it is still one of the most anticipated games in development right now.

In a bid to keep the card game even more current than it already, Reddit user TheVespertineKind has shared in a post a host of truly wholesome images of him and his father taking part in a real-life round of Gwent. Not only are the adorable pair able to use The Witcher 3's Gwent to bond over, the creative mind of TheVespertineKind has gone a step further in personalizing the magic moments by crafting his own custom table to play on with his dad as well as custom Gwent cards.

TheVespertineKind states in the post that he and his father made the Gwent table together from scratch and after designing their very own custom playing cards, they were then able to get them printed in Canada and shipped to the UK where they live. He also mentions that his father "gives off big Vesemir vibes in real life," so he felt right at home by jumping into some rounds of the game. As most players and readers of the books will know, Vesemir is the oldest witcher at Kaer Morhene He acted as a father figure to the game's main protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, and the other witchers at the training school.

For those who love and miss Doug Cockle’s iconic gruff voice as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher 3, the fan-favorite monster hunter will be returning in The Witcher 4. Cockle will also be portraying the witcher in Netflix’s upcoming animated film The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, based on a story from the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski.
