So far, protagonist Ciri is the only character confirmed to return in The Witcher 4, where she will take over the protagonist slot from her adoptive father, Geralt. It is likely that the game will contain plenty of exciting new characters – but the world of The Witcher has a large, memorable cast, and it would be a pity not to see a few familiar faces again. With so many characters to choose from, not everyone from the previous Witcher games can come back, but there are a few that would be fun to see in The Witcher 4, even as just a brief cameo.
The Witcher 4 Following in Wild Hunt's Footsteps With Its Map Would Be a Good Thing
The Witcher 4 should borrow from Wild Hunt's maps in several ways, but also bring in some new locations from around the Continent.
Main Characters Who Could Return in The Witcher 4
The main cast of the previous Witcher games should not take too much precedence, in order to avoid distracting from Ciri's story arc. However, these are probably the cameos fans of the series most want to see.
Geralt's Return Seems Guaranteed
Doug Cockle, the actor who plays Geralt of Rivia, has all but confirmed that the character will be returning in some capacity in The Witcher 4. A Geralt return makes sense – he's Ciri's adoptive father, and he could easily serve as a mentor figure for his daughter as she embarks on her own witcher journey. Even if he plays only a brief role , the game simply wouldn't seem complete without Geralt.
Yennefer And Triss Would Be Complicated, But Fun
Yennefer of Vengerberg and Triss Merigold's returns would be a bit more complicated than Geralt's. CD Projekt RED has carefully avoided making either sorceress's potential relationship with Geralt the "canon" one, so a return for either would probably have to skirt around her current romantic status with the White Wolf. However, seeing Yen and Triss again would be nice, as they were both mentor figures to Ciri as she developed her unique powers, and she does have a close bond with both. Seeing Ciri go to these iconic sorceresses for magical help would be a nice cameo in The Witcher 4, although they might have to stay away from interacting with Geralt.
Dandelion Fits In Pretty Much Anywhere
Dandelion the poet is the character who can most easily slot into any Witcher game or scenario. A bard who is best friends with Geralt and cares for Ciri deeply, he often travels and could easily be encountered on the road. He's also previously played a "narrator" role as the author of some of the game's character descriptions and bestiary entries, a role he could easily reprise in The Witcher 4. The only potential barrier to a Dandelion appearance is his increasing age and human status – his life is not artificially elongated like a witcher's or sorceress's, and he might be quite elderly by the time of the fourth game.
Supporting Characters Who Could Return
The list of minor and supporting characters from previous Witcher games who could potentially reappear in The Witcher 4 is nearly endless. These are just a few of the many options that could be particularly interesting to see interact with Ciri:
- Cerys an Craite of Skellige is another young person potentially thrust into a position of power, who could bond with Ciri over this fact.
- Eskel and Lambert, Geralt's fellow Wolf School Witchers, also see Ciri as a daughter figure. Lambert could bring with him the sorceress Keira Metz, who he romanced in Wild Hunt.
- Gaunter O'Dimm, a villain Geralt faced but was unable to conclusively defeat in the Hearts of Stone DLC, could make a terrifying foe for Ciri to encounter.
- Regis, an immortal vampire from the Blood and Wine DLC, could easily still be around regardless of The Witcher 4's time period.
- Dudu, a shapeshifter who brings hilarity and chaos into any plot he participates in.
- Zoltan Chivay, a loyal dwarf companion.
