The final episode of the second season of Solo Leveling in March 2025 left a massive crater in fans' hearts. Binging the web novel and manhwa to get another dose of Sung Jin-Woo's epic tale has been all well and good for some, but many miss the fiery on-air action that the A-1 Pictures anime series brought to the small screen, with countless viewers searching for something to fill the gap during the lengthy wait for a potential third season. While nothing will match Solo Leveling to a tee, one new series is already making waves online for its similarities to the action fantasy juggernaut.

Inspired by the ongoing light novel series by Itsuki Togami and Yuri Kisaragi, Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None is one of this season's major fantasy anime releases, blending RPG elements with character-driven drama in a familiar world. So far, however, the series has flown under the radar, with heavy hitters like Sentenced to Be a Hero and the return of Jujutsu Kaisen hogging the spotlight.

While numerous parallels can be drawn between the series' protagonist Orhun Dula and Solo Leveling's Sung Jin-Woo, the differences between the two are what may convince fans of the latter to dive in, with the adaptation quickly proving to viewers that it isn't entirely composed of the 'weak to overpowered' genre's clichés and tropes. As viewers have learned in the weeks following its debut, there's more to Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None than meets the eye in its introductory episode. A new Solo Leveling season may indeed be coming down the pipeline, but in the meantime, there's a new OP protagonist in town.

Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None Is Worth Watching This Winter

Orhun Dula’s Underdog Story Is Reminiscent of Sung Jin-Woo's, But With Some Big Differences

Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None follows Orhun, a member of the coveted Hero's Party, known throughout the land for their incredible battle prowess as they delve deep into the dangerous dungeons scattered throughout the land. Once a swordsman, Orhun decides to become an enchanter to better assist his comrades on the front line.

Unfortunately, one day, he is unceremoniously thrown out of the Hero's Party after the others conclude that all of his skills are utterly average, deeming him a "jack-of-all-trades, master of none." Now solo, Orhun begins to carve a new path as a swordsman once again, and it quickly becomes clear that he's far from useless. In fact, being average may prove to be his greatest strength, as it makes it easy to quickly pick up new skills on his adventures. His former teammates soon realize that maybe Orhun was the smartest of them all, but far too late.

While Sung Jin-Woo starts at the bottom of the totem pole in terms of strength in Solo Leveling, Orhun is far from weak, but is rather completely misunderstood by the teammates he had long seen as friends. Being kicked out of the party without warning, despite all he had done for its members (which they later come to fully understand, to their shock and dismay), is a major betrayal, and one that may have more intense consequences down the line. While the protagonist doesn't seem like one to have dreams of revenge, his end goal remains unclear.

Following his dismissal from the Hero's Party, Orhun agrees to help a rival team, the Night Sky Silver Rabbits, for a brief time as they train new adventurers. One member of his former group, Luna, has the sense to ask Orhun to return, but his answer is far from positive. Once the public learns that the protagonist didn't leave his team voluntarily, things become even messier.

While Solo Leveling is heavier on the action and more dark in tone, Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None offers a lighter story, though this may not always be the case. Sung Jin-Woo slowly builds his strength, eventually becoming overpowered almost to the point of parody. On the other hand, Orhun focuses on cultivating multiple skills, even going as far as to create his own spells that blow other enchanters' abilities out of the water. His strength alone isn't the focus, as his intelligence and ability to read each situation make him powerful in his own right. Still, the pair share a similar vibe, as they both do a stand-up job of proving people wrong. Strangely, they both also share some physical features.

Fans Wonder Where This Classic Fantasy Series Will Go

The Character Drama Makes Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None Shine

As a character, Orhun is easy to sympathize with, and his relationships with others feel entirely authentic. Most viewers will have experienced a sudden fallout with someone meant to be a friend, and many will also understand how it feels to want to prove yourself, along with the frustration that comes with falling short in a certain area, never becoming an expert. Rather than being a deterrent, however, Orhun wields this frustration for good, channeling it in positive ways and seeking to find a place alongside people he can trust after spending some much-needed time alone. Fans won't only root for the jack-of-all-trades himself, but also for those he meets, yearning to see them accept Orhun for who he is, inadequacies and all.

Super powerful protagonists capable of anything might feel redundant in an anime plot, but these series are fun to watch despite an OP MC.

The anime adaptation of Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None is the first series produced by Animation Studio 42, with the company also currently working on the upcoming series The Frontier Lord Begins with Zero Subjects. While this may not inspire confidence, the show's director might, with Hiroyuki Kanbe previously working on dozens of beloved series, from My Hero Academia and Yu Yu Hakusho to Wolf's Rain and Erased. Kanbe also provided key animation for Cowboy Bebop: The Movie and Afro Samurai: Resurrection.

Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None is available to stream on Crunchyroll. New episodes air each Wednesday.

While Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None bears enough similarities to Solo Leveling to appease some fans of the latter, another upcoming series blatantly copies the hit anime. Set to release in July 2026, Tomb Raider King, inspired by the South Korean web novel of the same name, follows the wildly powerful Seo Joo-Heon as he embarks on an adventure back in time to get revenge on those who betrayed him.
