  • While it's not impossible, the chances of Zenitsu getting the mark in the anime are slim, given the manga's faithful adaptation.

Perhaps one of the most hyped battles in Demon Slayer’s Infinity Castle Arc is between Zenitsu Agatsuma and the new upper rank six, Kaigaku. Now that the stakes are higher than ever, fans will definitely see a different side of Zenitsu, who has always been a source of humor, alongside Inosuke, in both the Demon Slayer anime and manga. He has so much potential, but will he awaken the demon slayer mark?

So far, in the Demon Slayer anime, only Tanjiro, Muichiro, and Mitsuri have awakened the long-awaited mark. Following their intense showdown with some of the upper demon moons, like Hantengu, Gyokko, Gyutaro, and Daki, they finally obtained the mark under life-threatening conditions. The question is, will Zenitsu also reach the same level as Tanjiro and the others as he wields his sword against the most powerful opponent in the series? Let’s find out.

Will Zenitsu Get the Demon Slayer Mark?

What the Demon Slayer Manga Tells Us

The Infinity Castle is one of the most action-packed story arcs in the Demon Slayer manga and showcases the courage, strength, and sacrifices of the entire Demon Slayer organization, especially the pillars, Tanjiro, and his allies, against the near-invincible demons led by Muzan Kibutsuji. It's a fight to the death, an incredibly long night where only one side could emerge victorious in the end.

Zenitsu, the sword-wielding thunder-breath slayer, also joins the fight against Muzan and his demons. While Zenitsu is best remembered for his intense fear of dying from the earlier seasons of Demon Slayer, he will wreak havoc in the Infinity Castle to honor his deceased master, Jigoro Kuwajima, and to prove to Kaigaku just how strong he has truly become. Fans eagerly anticipate this showdown, as Zenitsu finally reveals his true potential.

"I hate myself more than anyone. I always think I have to get my act together, but I end up cowering, running away, sniveling. I want to change. I want to be a competent person"—Zenitsu

However, as much as fans would love to see Zenitsu get a demon slayer mark during this battle, it will not happen, as the manga revealed. Most likely, Zenitsu never reached the required conditions, as he was able to overpower and outmaneuver Kaigaku with a new self-made technique, Seventh Form: Honoikazuchi no Kami, easily. This technique caught Kaigaku off guard, resulting in his death at the hands of his brother.

Is It Possible for Zenitsu to Awaken the Demon Slayer Mark?

Zenitsu’s Potential

It’s not easy to awaken the demon slayer mark, despite the power and strength one possesses. To unlock the strength-enhancing tattoo-like mark, Zenitsu should be able to survive life-threatening conditions and be in contact with an already marked demon slayer. Zenitsu already checks one of these conditions, given his undeniably close friendship with Tanjiro.

According to Muichiro, when he awakened the demon slayer mark, his heart rate was over 200 beats per minute, and he had a body temperature of over 39° Celsius. These conditions could be fatal, which means survival might be the final key to unlocking the mark. With Zenitsu’s ability to survive close encounters with death, there’s a strong chance he could outlive the requirements of the mark, especially now that he means serious business.

"This is my form. I created it, so it's all mine. With this technique... I wanted to fight you as an equal!"—Zenitsu

Zenitsu has been consistent in running away in fear of fighting demons, constantly worrying about his safety over and over again. He would lose consciousness, allowing his instincts to take over and fight. However, Zenitsu has obviously changed, based on his aura alone when he fell into the Infinity Castle.

Could the Anime Change That?

It’s Unlikely but Not Entirely Impossible

Zenitsu-Demon-Slayermas

It’s not entirely impossible for the Demon Slayer anime to give Zenitsu a demon slayer mark. They could change this part, likely during the battle against Kaigaku or even later in the final push against Muzan, as a major treat for his fans. However, chances of this happening are slim, as the anime has always been faithful to the manga since the first season.

For now, Demon Slayer fans should not expect much, given the events that happened in the manga. Regardless of whether Zenitsu awakens the demon slayer mark in the anime or not, he remains a powerful and capable demon slayer whose contributions in the final fight will most certainly have a significant and lasting impact on the fans.
