Like so many of today's games, Wild Hearts features a fully customizable protagonist. This means that if the player wants their Kemono hunter to have pink dreadlocks and a fully tattooed face, it won't be a problem. Regardless of whether it fits with the overall aesthetic of the world, Wild Hearts will let players customize to their heart's content.

With many games, the only problem with having a beautiful and unique character is that their one-of-a-kind monster killer gets completely covered up by a massive helmet or some other protective gear. Wild Hearts solves this issue by allowing players to hide their headgear without removing their benefits to the character.

Character Customization

When players first create their characters, after meeting the mysterious musician that sets the hunter on their path to Minato, they will have the ability to select "Hide Headgear" and "Hide Collar." There's no need to worry if this was missed during initial character creation though, as it is not the only method to hide the hunter's headgear.

The 01.00.01 update brought with it the inclusion of the new Looking Glass Dragon Karakuri, which allows players to revisit the character customization screen anywhere in Minato. Unlocking this Karakuri does require moderate progression to have been made in Wild Hearts' main story, as there is a considerable number of Karakuri that must be unlocked first.

Change Equipment at Forge:

Once payers complete the tutorial section, they will come across Wild Hearts' first monster hunt. The hunter must rescue Natsume from the Ragetail, which will result in the forge being unlocked in Wild Hearts' Dragon Karakuri menu.

Once available, players need only open the Karakuri menu by holding L1 and pressing up on the d-pad. They should then place the forge anywhere in the cave campsite to allow for convenient access. After it's been crafted, they'll be able to approach the forge to access its menu. The "change equipment" option is the third choice in the menu, which leads to Wild Hearts' equipment customization menu. Unlike the original character creation method, hiding the character's headgear in this menu is as simple as pressing L3.

Some headgear, like the Fresh Fern Headgear that Natsume forges, have more than a simple "on/off" option when using the L3 prompt. This piece of equipment has a setting that simply removes the hood, but keeps other elements present. While not all headgear has this unique option, it is worth keeping in mind whenever trying out new helmets for the first time.

At the moment, Wild Hearts has this special option only for headgear, though that may change in future updates.

Wild Hearts is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
