Update 2/25: That was fast. Wikipedia already appears to be back up and running like normal.

Original story follows.

Resource site Wikipedia is currently down. While there are still those that criticize Wikipedia for being an "unreliable source" thanks to the fact that it can be edited by basically anybody, there's no denying that the vast majority of information on the platform is legitimate. There's a reason why Wikipedia is still the go-to resource for millions of Internet users every single day, and while many other sites have completely copied its style.

Wikipedia doesn't have ads or superfluous things that many other sites do. Instead, its continued operation relies almost entirely on reader donations. The site earns its donations through its sheer usefulness and the fact that it's incredibly reliable. It's rare for Wikipedia to ever have any kind of serious technical problem or be inaccessible, but that's exactly what's happening right now.

Wikipedia Status

wikipedia down right now Image via Down Detector

At the time of this writing, Wikipedia is down. Hundreds have taken to Down Detector to report the outage, which is usually indicative of a major, widespread problem. From my own testing, I am completely unable to access the site through a web browser, but I am able to access it through the mobile app. There has been no statement on Wikipedia's downtime, and it's unclear when the site will be back up and running. It's unlikely that Wikipedia will be down for too long, however.

We will update this article as soon as Wikipedia's services have been fully restored.
