Space Marine 2 picks up many years after the events of the first game. Due to the genetic modifications done to a Space Marine, they are able to live potentially hundreds of years, with the usual cause of death being from war and not age.

Due to their superhuman lifespan, Titus is able to be the main character of Space Marine 2 despite many years passing between the two games. The first game ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, with Titus's fate up in the air. Here's what happened after the first game and where Titus has been all this time.

What Happened To Titus After Space Marine 1

At the end of Space Marine 1, Titus was questioned by Inquisitor Thrax as to why he was able to resist the warp and chaos in the way that he did. While it was unnatural, Thrax accused Titus of hiding something and took him to be questioned. This would lead to the next 100 years of Titus being in stasis, only to be woken up and tortured in various ways by Thrax in an attempt to break him or make him confess to his heresy.

Despite the long and difficult torture, Titus had nothing to hide and was able to withstand the Inqusitor's wrath. It was also learned that Inquisitor Thrax had a personal grudge against all Astartes, and was mostly holding Titus for that reason. After no corruption or heresy was found in Titus, he was released. Titus believed he brought shame on the Ultramarines for his actions, and instead of returning to them, he changed his name and joined Deathwatch as penance.

What Is Deathwatch?

The Deathwatch is a group of Space Marines made up of members of various chapters that join to hunt Xenos for many years away from their chapter. The Deathwatch is usually made up of Veteran Space Marines and serves under the Ordo Xenos. Serving in the Deathwatch is usually a temporary but very honorable position for any Space Marine.

How Much Time Is Between Space Marine 1 & 2

The exact timeline between Space Marine 1 & 2 is unknown, though the Service Studs on Titus' forehead give a hint it has been about 200 years since the first game. A gold service stud represents 100 years of service to the Imperium, and in the first game, Titus has two, while in the second game, he now has four. It is unclear how long Titus was with the Deathwatch, but he has now rejoined the Ultramarines and has crossed the Rubicon Primaris to further strengthen himself as a Space Marine and meet the threat of Hive Fleet Leviathan.
