Titan Quest 2's Proti Island acts as a large prologue zone, letting players set the foundations for their character while also seeing the background for the story. While the island is fairly small, there is a bit of optional content that can be completed, though it's not easily tracked in a journal or by map markers.

What to do With the Strange Jar in Titan Quest 2

The Strange Jar in the Player's Inventory

You'll get the Strange Jar in a small clearing near the Proti Village Outskirts waypoint. After picking up the Strange Jar, it can be found in the Quests tab of your Repository Inventory, so it won't take up any slots in your main inventory and keep you from picking up loot. From that waypoint, follow the path southwest until you reach a beach with a few crabs near a destroyed boat. Follow the beach to the north and head through the cave until you reach the next clearing.

All the spiders in the cave are only level 3 and won't pose any threat, no matter where you're at in the prologue.

The Path to the Hermes Altar

In the second clearing of the cave, the Strange Jar will start talking again, and indicate you found the altar in the bottom left corner of the cave. Interact with the Altar to place the Strange Jar down and complete the quest. The Jar won't get any response from Hermes, but it will give you a reward for helping it out. Even as the Jar keeps talking, there's no benefit or reward for standing around and listening to it talk to Hermes aside from the potential lore implication that it's Hermes' brother in the Jar.

Rewards for Helping the Strange Jar in Titan Quest 2

The Player Getting the Rare Weapon from the Strange Jar

The reward for this mini-quest is a random rare weapon. The exact reward is determined by your current build, determined by the Masteries you've chosen. While there's no guarantee it will be better than what you have, it will at least be worth considering for your current class. You'll also get a small sum of XP, 1,848, that can help you get another level in before trying to face the Gryphon.
