Goodneighbor in Fallout 4, known as Scollay Square before the Great War, is a large settlement in Boston's Financial District. In 2287, it came under the governance of Mayor John Hancock, and is inhabited by ghouls, criminals, and other individuals who do not fit in elsewhere in the Commonwealth.

Goodneighbor is one of the most challenging locations to find, since downtown Boston is a vast maze. It is typical for fellow Vault Dwellers to get lost looking for it for hours. Fortunately, there are several methods players can use to find the settlement of Goodneighbor.

How to Find Goodneighbor in Fallout 4

First Method

Finding Goodneighbor by traveling from Diamond City to Swans Pond and then following the Freedom Trail in Fallout 4.

The first and most traditional way to find Goodneighbor is to head east of Diamond City until you reach Swan's Pond. There, look for the red line on the ground near the northeastern pond corner – this is the Freedom Trail in Fallout 4. Follow the red line, which will lead you right past the front entrance to Goodneighbor.

The entrance to Goodneighbor can be hard to find, but there are signs pointing to it, as shown in the picture above. If you're looking for a holotape for the Railroad, you can find one at Covenant or Bunker Hill. Listen to it, follow the trail, and it will lead you straight to the entrance of Goodneighbor.

Second Method

Getting into Goodneighbor by jumping off the Fallen Skybridge at the location marked on the Pip-Boy map in Fallout 4

The second method of reaching Goodneighbor involves jumping down into the city from the collapsed section of the fallen sky bridge. Jumping from this location will cause a loading screen to appear. Once the loading screen finishes, you will spawn inside the city.

Third Method

Getting into Goodneighbor by either jumping of the top of the Mass Fusion Building or by traveling southwest of its location until you reach the door in Fallout 4.

For the last way to reach the settlement, you can jump off the top of the Mass Fusion Building into the area of Goodneighbor. This will trigger the loading screen mentioned above, and spawn you into Goodneighbor. If you choose this method, it is recommended that you have Acrobatic legendary legs, which make you immune to fall damage. Wearing power armor will also do the trick. This will ensure that you don't die from the fall if you don't jump into the area that triggers the loading screen.

If you want to avoid the jump but have still found yourself at the Mass Fusion Building, you can turn southwest from this location and eventually run into Goodneighbor. This may take longer, but is far less risky, especially if you don't have the aforementioned protections against fall damage.

Companion Comments about Goodneighbor

fallout-4-cait-feature

All the companions in Fallout 4 will make some sort of comment when you cross the threshold to the entrance of Goodneighbor. Most will make some humorous remarks about the unsavory nature of the place.

  • Cait: "Wow, this place is a s---hole. And here I thought it couldn't get any worse than the Combat Zone."
  • Codsworth: "Goodneighbor indeed. Certainly, no one here is trying to win any awards for cleanliness."
  • Curie: "Oh, can we see the Old State House? Maybe they have the tourist brochure?"
  • Danse: "Safety's off. I don't like the look of this place one bit."
  • Deacon: "Hancock turns a blind eye to our...activities. Makes Goodneighbor a great place to lay low."
    • Deacon will also change his outfit to resemble the mobsters around town.
  • John Hancock: "Home sweet home."
  • Nick Valentine: "Goodneighbor. Lowest place in the Commonwealth. Everything not nailed down rolls through here at some point."
  • Piper Wright: "Goodneighbor, huh? You lookin' to get stoned or stabbed?"
    • The Neighborhood Watch will also comment that Piper "is the dame that writes Publick Occurrences, right? Good stuff. I always appreciated good investigative journalism."
  • Preston Garvey: "I've never actually been in here before. But from what I hear, we'd better watch our step."
  • Robert MacCready: "Ugh. Nothing says welcome like the stench of urine-soaked garbage."
  • Strong: "These humans like fighting."
  • X6-88: "A lot of runners come through here. They think it's a safe place."
