The mascot of Gen 8's Pokemon Sun, Solgaleo, can be caught if you have the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Indigo Disk DLC. Originally exclusive to Pokemon Sun/Ultra Sun, you can get Solgaleo in both versions without having to trade or transfer.

Despite being known as the "Sunne Pokemon," Solgaleo's typing is Psychic/Steel. You can make it appear in Paldea after obtaining a Solgaleo Treat from Snacksworth, an NPC who shows up after you've caught Terapagos in the Indigo Disk. While you can get Solgaleo in both Scarlet/Violet, it may be easier for some players to get it in Scarlet rather than Violet.

How to Get Solgaleo Treat

Where to Find Snacksworth

Snacksworth can be found at the Entrance of Blueberry Academy. If you look to the right from the reception desk, he'll be standing by the row of seats surrounding the battle arena. Once you've completed 10 Solo Blueberry Quests (BBQs), Snacksworth will give you a Key Item called a Pokemon Treat. If you're lucky, he'll give you a Solgaleo Treat for your first 10 Solo BBQs in Pokemon Scarlet. As long as you have this item in your inventory, the respective Legendary Pokemon will appear.

How to Get Solgaleo Treat in Pokemon Violet

Those with a copy of Pokemon Violet will have to put in a bit more work. You have a chance of getting a Solgaleo Treat by completing one Group BBQ, which are only accessible if you're in a Union Circle. Like the Solo BBQs, the Treat will be randomized, so it may take you more than one Group BBQ until you get the Solgaleo Treat. When you reveive BBQs, you'll notice they have different colored backgrounds depending on their difficulty. Group BBQs are marked by their gold background, and you get one for every "red background" BBQ that you complete in the Union Circle.

Pokemon League

After getting the Solgaleo Treat, Snacksworth will give you a hint:

"Speaking of Solgaleo... I do recall this one particular encounter when I was a younger feller. I'd gone to pay Paldea's Pokémon League a little visit at that fine building they've got there. I was just admiring the structure from the outside when one of the staffers noticed me and invited me in for a better look. They took me up to the observation deck, all done up with that logo of theirs. I was looking toward the academy and enjoying the view when a shadow fell across us. I kid you not, young friend. It was Solgaleo itself! It was only there a moment before it dashed right off again in a flash, so I couldn't even get in a how-do-you-do. But it was magnificent!"

Solgaleo's location is extremely easy to pin down, as Snacksworth all but states it in his story. You will find Solgaleo on the roof of the Pokemon League. So, fly to the Pokemon Center outside the League Building, then climb the surrounding mountains until you're high enough to glide over to the roof. Of course, if you unlocked Koraidon/Miraidon's flying ability, you can just soar on up without any trouble.

Solgaleo appears on the roof of the League Building, not the battle arena. You can refer to the above image for an idea of where you'll need to go.

Solgaleo Moves and Weaknesses

Type: Psychic/Steel

Dual Psychic/Steel-typing has four type weaknesses, but what will make Solgaleo difficult to catch is its moveset. This level 70 Solgaleo comes packing with two moves that have recoil damage. Meaning if you chip away too much at Solgaleo's HP, it has a chance of accidentally knocking itself out. Like with any Legendary Pokemon encounter, save before you battle it.

Here are some tips for catching Solgaleo:

Weak against:

Fire, Ground, Dark, Ghost

Resistant to:

Grass, Rock, Flying, Ice, Fairy, Psychic, Steel, Normal, Dragon

Immune to:

  • While you can nullify Solgaleo's Wild Charge ability if you have a Ground-type Pokemon, it can still hit you with Flare Blitz, which also has recoil damage. However, you can lessen the recoil damage by having a Pokemon with strong Defense. Recoil damage is calculated by how much damage the move deals to the opponent. Thus, by having a wall/high Defense Pokemon against Solgaleo, you can potentially cut back on the recoil damage that Solagaleo receives.
  • Metal Burst works the exact same as Counter and Mirror Coat. Unlike Counter/Mirror Coat, Metal Burst will hit regardless of the type of move you're using. Meaning that regardless if you hit Solgaleo with a physical or a special move, Metal Burst can be triggered. You'll want to be careful, as Metal Burst deals 1.5x the damage if it succeeds.
  • Solar Beam is a Grass-type move that charges on the first turn, then unleashes on the second turn. If you have harsh sunlight, Solar Beam will only take one turn. When battling Solgaleo, try not to bring a Pokemon with the Drought Ability.
