The Eighth Trial of Aql is the final test in Fremen line of quests, but the game itself is far from over even after completing this. This trial unlocks one of the best water extractors in the game, but it's also more complicated than the trials that came before.
Unlike all the other Trials of Aql in Dune: Awakening, the eighth trial involves puzzles and an actual combat segment. The fighting part isn't terribly difficult, but the puzzles can definitely leave some players scratching their heads. This guide covers the location of the Eighth Trial of Aql as well as all the puzzle solutions and rewards for it.
Where to Find the Sixth Trial of Aql in Dune: Awakening
Continue the pursuit for the Fremen by completing the Sixth Trial of Aql in Dune: Awakening.
Dune: Awakening - Eighth Trial of Aql Location
The Eighth Trial of Aql is found along the border of the Eastern Shield Wall and Mysa Tarill. What you're looking for here is a POI called Sietch Ta'lab, which is hidden along a cliff. Head to the map marker shown in the screenshot above, then look for a blue symbol along the cliff wall to find the entrance to the Sietch.
There will be some fighting here, so make sure to bring a Shield and that all your gear is repaired.
Entering Sietch Ta'lab
Once you enter through the crack, you'll be greeted by a large hall with a locked door. Upon interacting with the door, you'll be quizzed on the Fremen's journey from planet to planet. The correct sequence of planets is as follows:
- Nilotic al-Ourouba
- Poritrin
- Salusa Secundus
- Bela Teguese
- Rossak
- Thurgrod
- Harmonthep
Answer the door correctly, and you'll be greeted by Ari, a scholar who's also trying to study the Fremen. Partner up with her, then proceed through the Sietch.
Exploring the Sietch
You're free to explore from this point on, but to get to the next section, you'll have to go through a small maze. To proceed, pull out your Cutteray and destroy the boulders blocking the path. You'll eventually reach a door that leads to some stairs. This is the exit that leads to the next puzzle.
If you ever go thirsty, you can refill your Literjon in the Sietch by finding water containers.
The Hologram Puzzle
In this room, you'll be greeted by numerous symbols on the walls as well as a Solido Projection of a scholar. The goal here is to switch the symbols on top of the door according to the lessons being explained by the scholar's hologram. The correct symbols are in the image above. Alternatively, use the following to symbol sequences:
- Bind - Dune - Grass
- Planting - Shelter - Downwind
- Animal - Aerate - Sand
Approach the glowing symbols on the walls to see what each symbol represents.
The Floor Puzzle
The next puzzle involves rotating three discs on the floor to create a pattern. Refer to the image above so you know what the pattern is. Once you align the discs, interact with the nearby device to unlock the way forward.
After the puzzle, make your way through the newly opened door. A cutscene will play, and after that, you'll need to interact with a console to the left of the room from the entrance. After interacting with it, a new door will open, and you can proceed to the final part of the trial.
Combat Segment and Rewards
After dropping down from the previous room, you'll get attacked by some Worm Cultists. Defend yourself with everything you've got, and once all the enemies are dead, you'll be able to exit the Sietch. To leave the area, head to the stairway opposite the caved-in exit.
After reaching the surface, you'll receive Ari's Pistol, a Unique Maula Pistol variant that becomes more accurate once you achieve the Prescient state you unlocked via the Fourth Trial of Aql. Additionally, you'll now be able to craft Fremen Deathstills, which fully extract all blood from corpses to provide you with plenty of water over the course of one real-life hour.
