Annapurna Interactive has become one of the premiere indie game publishers in the modern game industry. The publisher has seen plenty of success since its founding in 2016 publishing critically-acclaimed indie games like What Remains of Edith Finch and The Artful Escape. 2022 has already been a strong year for Annapurna with both Neon White and the recently-released Stray receiving glowing reception from fans. Now, Thursday's Annapurna showcase has revealed major upgrades for both Edith Finch and Outer Wilds.

What Remains of Edith Finch was a critical darling when it first released in April 2017. The narrative-based adventure game was praised for its story, receiving numerous accolades including "Best Narrative" at the 2017 Game Awards and multiple Game of the Year nominations. Outer Wilds' 2019 release was met with similar praise from fans and critics alike, receiving multiple nominations and even winning the British Academy's Best Game award in 2019. Now, both games are set to receive a major graphical upgrade in the near future.

The Annapurna Interactive showcase revealed next-gen upgrades to come for both What Remains of Edith Finch and Outer Wilds. Annapurna confirmed Outer Wilds will be receiving a 60 fps upgrade releasing on both Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 on September 15. The upgrade will be free to players who already own the game on PS4 or Xbox One. Outer Wilds developer Mobius Digital also reassured fans that a Switch version of the game is still in the works, however no release date was revealed during the showcase.

What Remains of Edith Finch is also set to receive a major graphical upgrade coming significantly sooner than that of Outer Wilds. Annapurna revealed an upgraded version for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 that would support both 4K resolution and 60 fps. The graphical enhancement was confirmed as free for players who own the game on PS4 or Xbox One, similarly to Outer Wilds' upgrade. Edith Finch's 4K 60 fps update was also revealed to be available right away following the reveal during the Annapurna Interactive showcase.

What Remains of Edith Finch and Outer Wilds receiving free next-gen upgrades will come as the newest entry in a year filled with success for Annapurna. Stray saw huge popularity following its release with the cat-based adventure game becoming the highest-rated game on Steam only a week after its release. Many fans have also slotted developer Angel Matrix's Neon White as an early contender for 2022's Game of the Year. Edith Finch and Outer Wilds' newest upgrades will add another reason for fans to experience the acclaimed stories.

What Remains of Edith Finch is available now for iOS, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Outer Wilds is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions releasing September 15 and a Switch version in development.
