JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise stays true to its name in every sense be it weirdly amazing storylines or the vivid colored attire wearing flamboyant characters, etc. All in all JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is one of the most loved and followed shonen anime franchises with five seasons in its list of installments as of now, Stone Ocean being the latest one. Besides the world of anime and manga, JoJo holds great significance in the overall world of pop culture as almost all forms of entertainment have one or more instances of a work having a JoJo reference.
One of the core factors that make JoJo's Bizarre Adventure truly outstanding is its protagonists in its various seasons or parts. These protagonists are unique with the qualities of being phenomenal main characters not only in terms of JoJo verse but also in an overall anime universe. Protagonists like Joseph Joestar from Battle Tendency part, Jotaro Kujo from Stardust Crusaders, and Giorno Giovanna from the Golden Wind are considered one of the best shonen anime protagonists and are also fan favorites. All of these protagonists take up the titular mantle of JoJo and have their separate fan bases among the fans of the franchise. However, there is one JoJo that is not celebrated enough by the fans even though he is spectacular in his own right that is Josuke Higashikata of Diamond Is Unbreakable.
Iconic Anime Characters Born In April
Shining/Crazy Diamond
Apart from their personalities, the main basis of JoJo protagonists becoming fan favorites is how powerful they are. The power system of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is the Hamon and Stands that provide superpowers and strength to the characters. Josuke from the Diamond Is Unbreakable had quite an amazing and powerful stand called Crazy Diamond (Shining Diamond in the dub version). It has some of the most insanely good sets of abilities. Crazy Diamond is at par in terms of strength with Star Platinum which is the stand of Jotaro Kujo, the protagonist of the Stardust Crusaders part of the JoJo franchise. Crazy Diamond was strong enough to easily break Star Platinum's defenses although not to forget that the latter's strength declined significantly as it had not been used for six years before the Diamond Is Unbreakable part.
Apart from having a respectable level of strength, Crazy Diamond also has super speed with Josuke estimating that its attacks exceed 300 km/h (190 mph) speed. However, this might not be accurate since Crazy Diamond is equal to Star Platinum in terms of speed as well which moves at the speed of light. It also has an incredible level of precision as Josuke could even stop high-speed bullets with it when in full concentration. Though, the greatest trick up the sleeve of Crazy Diamond is its ability to restore. With this special and super useful ability, Crazy Diamond can restore any objects and organisms through touch. It can repair any kind of damage, heal any injury, redo chemical changes, and return complex structures to their raw forms. Not only this, but it can also fuse things and people as well as seen in the instance when Josuke fused the villain Anjuro Katagiri with a rock. There is only one disadvantage to this ability and that is the fact that Crazy Diamond cannot heal its user Josuke of any damage. All this power and a super powerful stand make Josuke a formidable force to reckon with.
Underrated Villain
What makes a protagonist truly stand out is an evil and completely vicious antagonist which in the case of Josuke is Yoshikage Kira. Kira is a psychopath who has a knack for killing women and keeping their body parts, especially their hands as his prized possessions. Kira is a purely evil person with no reason in the story to justify his doings whatsoever. Josuke and his friends had a hard time combating Kira and taking him down for good at the end of Diamond Is Unbreakable. Josuke was the MVP in the battle with Kira as only after he was bested by his Crazy Diamond that Jotaro's Star Platinum was able to deliver Kira a beating of a lifetime which ended in Kira's defeat and eventually his death.
Relationship With His Father
Josuke is not like the other JoJo protagonists most of which have the personality of egoistic hypermasculine people. Josuke on the other hand, is kind-hearted, secure in himself, and an understanding person. The biggest quality in his personality comes from the fact that his father Joseph Joestar had abandoned him and his mother Tomoka long ago. Since Joseph had an extramarital affair with Tomoka which resulted in the birth of Josuke Higashikata.
When Joseph returned to Moriah, Josuke eventually accepted his long-due apology and amended his relations with Joseph. All in all, Josuke Higashikata might be one of the best JoJo protagonists of all time with one of the most useful stands in the entire franchise, and a good set of character traits. Even after all these things, Josuke remains the most underrated JoJo as the fans have not given him the love and respect he deserves as one of the best protagonists of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
