Progression plays a significant role in Space Marine 2's co-op experience. While the solo campaign is mostly on-the-rails, Operations mode offers more things to do, such as leveling up gear and Astartes classes. Gene Seed plays a part in this system, though not many players might not be aware of it.
Inside every co-op mission in Space Marine 2's Operations mode are hidden items that players can grab to progress their accounts. Gene Seed expedites the relatively slow leveling process, but given how hard they are to find, many players end up overlooking them. Here's an overview of what these items do and where you can find them.
Space Marine 2: 6 Best Classes For Eternal War
There are six classes players can choose from in Eternal War in Space Marine 2; here are which ones are best.
What To Do With Gene Seed In Space Marine 2
Gene Seed is a type of item pickup that players can find in pre-determined spots during their matches in Operations mode. In this game, its sole purpose is to provide the entire squad with a small boon of bonus XP upon mission completion. However, the player carrying Gene Seed will have to forfeit their Guardian Relic slot, and the Gene Seed will deteriorate and disappear if the carrier dies.
Successfully extracting from a mission with a Gene Seed carrier is a great way to level up, letting players optimize their Space Marine 2 builds more quickly. Failing to secure the Gene Seed container won't cost players anything, provided that the mission is still successful in the end.
What Is Gene Seed In Warhammer 40K Lore?
Lore-wise, Gene Seed is a general term that refers to the genetic material made by the Emperor of Mankind to create Space Marines. Every member of the Adeptus Astartes is a genetically modified human with 19 additional organs (22 for new-generation Primaris marines) that give them their superhuman characteristics, such as their strength, resilience, and agelessness.
Gene Seed also refers to the germ cells produced inside the bodies of Space Marines. When an Astartes dies in battle, an Apothecary will extract their Gene Seed and use it to create new special organs for future Space Marine candidates.
Possible Gene Seed Locations In Space Marine 2 Operations Mode
A Gene Seed container may be present in any of the missions in Space Marine 2's Operations mode. They're usually hidden off the beaten path, and players are likely to miss them if they aren't thorough in their search. Here are some of the Gene Seed locations we've found so far. More will be added as they are discovered.
