Summary

  • Wednesday Season 2's episodes are too long.
  • The show would work better as a sitcom.
  • Wednesday season 2 part two returns in September 2025.

Netflix' s Wednesday season 2 is officially here, and I'm thrilled to be reunited with clever Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), her optimistic roommate Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers), and the rest of these quirky characters. I have a lot of questions about the Kansas City Scalper and Wednesday's stalker, and I'm excited to see the season 2 finale and find out if any fan theories were correct. Thankfully, while some second seasons pale in comparison to the first, Ortega's character still has the same quick wit that she did before, and Nevermore Academy is still a great setting.

Some fans aren't thrilled with one character's new storyline, and while I'm enjoying this season so far, I do have one concern about Wednesday season 2.

I Think Wednesday Season 2's Episodes Are Too Long

Would The Jenna Ortega Show Work Better As A Sitcom?

Wednesday season 2, part one's episodes are each around 60 minutes, and I think they should be shorter. Many Netflix shows have episodes that are 50 minutes to an hour long, and while it's necessary in some cases, I'd argue that many of these streaming series have a lot of filler content that could be omitted.

Take Stranger Things, for example. While every season packs character growth, action scenes, and smaller moments, even Stranger Things can become repetitive at times. I loved watching season 4, but Jim Hopper's (David Harbour) season 4 storyline became boring at a certain point. Instead of streamlining his plotline and showing him in captivity only a few times, the show focused on his plight too much. I think it would have been much more compelling if he was saved a bit sooner than he was.

Wednesday season 2

Network TV drama episodes are only around 40 or 42 minutes long since writers have to think about commercials, and it works well. The ABC series The Rookie is fast-paced and interesting, and if each episode were 10 or 20 minutes longer, it wouldn't be as engaging.

Wednesday season 1 suffered from the same problem that season 2 does: lengthy episodes that sometimes stray too far from the main plot. That's why I think Wednesday would work better as a fun sitcom with 30-minute episodes. The show already leans into its sense of humor, and while it's not classified as a comedy, it easily could be. After all, Wednesday Addams is always witty and clever, and the series has many memorable and funny quotes. At the very least, it would have made sense to make each episode 40 minutes. The pacing would be more exciting in that case.

Wednesday S2

I'm fine with season finales being 50 to 60 minutes long. It would be tough for a Wednesday season finale to be shorter than that, since loose ends need to be tied up and fans need answers. But even though tuning into the hit series is still a lot of fun, and fans are happy to see these beloved spooky Addams Family characters again, I would have been okay with shorter episodes.

Wednesday Season 2 Part Two Will Be Back In September 2025 (And Season 3 Is Coming)

Thankfully, Wednesday's Story Isn't Over Yet

When fans are done watching Wednesday season 2 episodes 1 through 4, they won't have a long wait until part two is released. Fans can check out episodes 5 through 8 on September 3rd, 2025.

After the school year at Nevermore Academy ends, Wednesday Addams and her classmates (and her quirky family members) will be back. On July 23rd, 2025, fans learned that Netflix renewed Wednesday for a third season. Co-creator and co-showrunner Miles Millar told Netflix.tudum.com:

“We will be seeing more Addams Family members and learning more family secrets in Season 3!”
