Summary
- Play through the story to unlock new mechanics and upgrade your player profile in Zenless Zone Zero.
- Characters like Anby, Billy, and Nicole don't level up traditionally - they need materials earned in battle or quests.
- Boost stats individually by equipping W-Engines and Drive Discs, and use temporary boosts like meals and coffee for battles.
Characters in this game do not level up in the traditional matter. Players will begin the game as Anby, Billy, and Nicole, who are following the orders of the player through one of two characters in Zenless Zone Zero: Wise or Belle. The three hero characters will fight and earn prizes like materials that can be used to level up in a menu.
Zenless Zone Zero: Beginner Tips
While fans of previous Hoyoverse titles might be familiar with some of these, here are some beginner tips to help newcomers.
That’s the most direct way to “level up” characters in Zenless Zone Zero but there are plenty of other ways to essentially upgrade the player’s profile too. Let’s get into some quick secret tips for this latest action RPG.
6 Play The Story
To Upgrade Parts, They First Have To Be Unlocked
The best piece of advice is to play through the story. Things will get unlocked in the game such as the Inter-Knot system in Zenless Zone Zero and video rentals, W-Engines, and more. Players can’t upgrade what they don’t have, right? So in a way unlocking new mechanics is like upgrading a player’s profile.
If players can get through the prologue and Chapter One then they should have a good understanding of how the world works. It’s also just a good way to get accustomed to the story. The presentation is slicker than past HoYoverse games so it can be entertaining but admittedly it won’t appeal to everyone.
5 Raising Levels
Building Characters In The RPG Tradition
As mentioned in the intro, the playable characters in Zenless Zone Zero including Anby, Billy, and Nicole won’t level up from defeating enemies in battle. Enemies will drop materials that can upgrade heroes instead and these materials can be gained from quest rewards too. One example is called the Trainee Investigator Log, which when applied to a character, can increase their level. At the start, characters cap at level ten.
Zenless Zone Zero: All Locations & How To Unlock Them
As players progress in the main story line, they will be able to discover more maps to explore in Zenless Zone Zero.
After reaching limits like these, other items are needed called Seals. The Basic Offense Certification Seal is one example and it will unlock the next tier of level upgrades which will cap at twenty. It’s best to stick to these three heroes at first to conserve precious resources but be sure to level them up to the max when possible.
4 Building Up Your Inter-Knot Level
Using The Every Day To Climb Up The RPG Ladder
The aforementioned Inter-Knot Level is kind of like the protagonist’s overall level. As either Wise or Belle, players can do menial tasks to raise the Inter-Knot Level. This includes completing story missions, side quests, and more.
Some story missions require the Inter-Knot Level to reach certain thresholds. If players manage to do everything available in the early game, including managing the videotape store, it won’t be hard to boost levels fast. Other level-like systems will unlock later including a License Level and a Bangboo Level in Zenless Zone Zero.
3 Boosting A Character’s Stats Individually
From Chips To W-Engines
Raising character levels will increase stats like in a normal action RPG. There are other ways to boost a character’s power though. On the hero tab, players can use materials to boost traits like a character’s basic attack, dodge ability, assist strength, and more.
Furthermore, in another tab, characters can equip W-Engines in Zenless Zone Zero as the most basic form of gear. Then they can add Drive Discs to a W-Engine to boost stats and to gain special abilities. These equipment items can eventually be bought, or gained from rewards, or loot drops in the standard gacha game ways.
2 Getting Temporary Boosts
From Food To Coffee
There are non-permanent ways to boost heroes in battle too. For example, fairly early on the food shop will open up, offering players one meal to gain a boost. Vegetable Noodles will raise attack power and more meals will unlock as the player’s Inter-Knot Level increases which is just another reason why it is so important to raise.
Zenless Zone Zero: All 5-Star Characters, Ranked (S-Rank Characters)
S-Rank characters in Zenless Zone Zero are equivalent to 5-Star characters in a typical gacha game.
This tactical meal prep is similar to many other action RPGs including the Monster Hunter series. Besides meals, players can also drink coffee to recharge energy which is represented by a battery. Energy works in similar ways to other gacha-based games as it will deplete after certain actions. Going into VR training while at the HIA is one example.
1 Login Every Day
Upgrading Your Roster And Stash Of Materials
Like the advice with the story, it’s important to keep playing the game regularly. As the adage goes, practice makes perfect, or in this case logging into Zenless Zone Zero daily will make things easier. Players can gain materials which can then lead to unlocks such as new heroes.
A new hero could change party dynamics, thus upgrading who players get to strategize with. Players don’t even have to play that much daily to get the most out of the game. It may be easier to remember to log into the game via the phone version but keeping a reminder note by the door, bed, work desk, or whatever is a good habit to follow. Time can be the player’s best friend in Zenless Zone Zero if they manage it correctly which is the same in reality.
