It's almost time for the Super Bowl 54, and across the US families and friends are getting ready for the big day. The game itself will kick off between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami at 6:30pm ET. For those planning to stream the game and its famous half-time show from their PS4 however, things won't be quite the same as last year.

In the 2019 Super Bowl, PlayStation owners were able to stream the game on PlayStation Vue,  Sony's PlayStation TV system. This is no longer an option, as Vue was shut down this year. Fortunately, for those PS4 owners who still want to use their console to stream the game, there are still options available.

YouTube TV

Given that the PlayStation console lacks any proper kind of Fox Sports app, the easiest way of streaming the Super Bowl following the demise of Vue is through YouTube TV. In fact, during the Vue shut-down PlayStation actually recommended YouTube TV as an alternative to their service. YouTube TV gives live TV access to a wide range of channels, including those needed to watch the Super Bowl.

To get started with YouTube TV, first PS4 owners will need to download their app, which is available on the store. After this, they'll need an active subscription to the YouTube TV service in order to access all its features, including the Super Bowl channel. Thankfully, there is a free trial available, provided that the account hasn't used one before. If even a free trial is too much work, PS4 owners can always just play Madden, and predict the results for themselves.

Streaming the Game

It's worth remembering that YouTube TV and YouTube Premium are separate services, and PS4 owners won't need the latter to stream the Super Bowl. YouTube Premium doesn't include live TV, so is no good to us here, especially because Super Bowl commercials are part of the experience. PS4 owners should also make sure to check that their local Fox channel is available on YouTube TV before subscribing, as this can vary from area to area.

Once a PS4 owner is subscribed, and has checked that YouTube TV streams their local Fox channel, all that is left is to wait for the big day. To begin streaming on Sunday, simply open the YouTube TV Live Guide, and find the local Fox station. It's also possible to search for the Super Bowl in the main menu, and add it to the library, which will record it for later viewing. The recording will include commercials, like the one featuring Ninja last year, and even extend if the Super Bowl overruns its time-slot, so there's no need to worry about missing anything.
