The upcoming WarioWare: Move It will feature plenty of hijinks, including a nostalgic nod to the classic Super Mario 64. While Mario’s evil counterpart Wario technically made his debut in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, it was his standalone WarioWare series that truly saw the yellow-clad troublemaker crawl out from under his heroic doppelganger’s shadow. The original WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! Was released for the Game Boy Advance in 2003 and set the standard for the follow-ups to come by offering players a series of lightning-fast, quirky minigames that can be enjoyed on the go.

Now Wario is at it again with WarioWare: Move It, a new entry that was announced for the Nintendo Switch during June’s Nintendo Direct livestream. Just like 2021’s WarioWare: Get It Together! Before it, Move It features a collection of zany “microgames” for players to complete either by themselves or with a friend in local co-op, with an increased emphasis on motion controls using the Switch’s Joy-Con controllers. There will be over 200 microgames in total, and some of these will pay tribute to other hit Nintendo games of the past like the original Pikmin or 1996’s seminal Super Mario 64.

The official Nintendo of America Twitter account has just offered eager fans a closer look at WarioWare: Move It’s homage to Super Mario 64 ahead of the former’s release on November 3. As shown in a brief video clip, this microgame is patterned after “The Princess's Secret Slide,” the hidden sliding level in Super Mario 64. Using the Joy-Con controller, players will have to guide Mario down the slide to collect as many coins as possible by tilting their bodies left and right. The full look of Super Mario 64 is faithfully recreated, down to the blocky Nintendo 64 graphics.

Those graphics were revolutionary at the time of Super Mario 64’s release back in 1996, as it was the first game to bring Mario into the realm of 3D after over a decade of side-scrollers. In this groundbreaking title, Princess Peach’s Castle served as a central hub where players could travel between levels using magic paints. In addition to standard Mario courses, this castle had many hidden secrets for gamers to uncover, such as special bonus stages that could be completed to help Mario gather the Power Stars and unlock the final confrontation with Bowser.

One of these hidden Super Mario 64 stages was “The Princess's Secret Slide,” a secret sliding course that will be referenced in one of WarioWare: Move It’s many minigames. The latest in Wario’s series of wacky sub-game collections is packed with colorful tributes to past Nintendo titles, and fans will likely see even more when Move It hits the Switch this November.

WarioWare: Move It will be released on November 3rd for the Nintendo Switch.
